Last night i went to get in my car after driving to the store, and the key fob wouldn't work, it had been working fine with no problems before, i figured it needed a new battery which luckily i had one already incase this did happen, however after putting in the new battery, no change. wouldn't open the door or register at all. Anyone have any idea what the problem could be?
Have you put the key into the little drawer under the arm rest and reset it?
I did it with the new battery the car starts but the key fob dat I’ll doesn’t work as intended, so is this a key fob issue or? in other words what is next online to be checked
The fob has either died or your fob battery isn't making good connection with the contacts.
The car will start if you put the fob into the dock because it reads a chip embedded into the fob body. It doesn't need a working fob battery to do that. Keyless entry and keyless start relies on the fob being able to talk to various modules via RF so needs a battery for that.
I feel your pain. I just paid $850 all in for a new key fob from the dealer south of Pittsburgh after I lost one of the two keys that I had. I got a slightly higher quote from a dealer in Charleston WV.
It now has a 'Tile' tracker on it (tile.com). Not a bulletproof solution, but maybe it'll work if I misplace this one. How the original got misplaced I'll never know, but I tore my house apart several times looking for it.

I 'lost' my key fob twice, inside the car.
It dropped out of my pocket between the consul and seat. I knew it was in the car and it still took me several exasperating attempts to actually see it and then I needed a probe to retrieve it.

I must have tighter trousers than you. With the fob in my pocket, I recently bent over to pick up the hosepipe while washing the car and the windows opened. On another occasion I was leaning in to look at the coolant level and I turned the headlights on. Maybe I should give up wearing jeans and get something more age-appropriate.
On the other hand, I've lost count of the number of times my phone has escaped down beside the seat.
$446 for the fob
$319.39 for the key blade (outrageous)
$225 to program it
oh and the $14 for a tube ok KY to grease myself up also!
I’ve found someone from a Indie Jag mechanic though who has proven track record of this 1 for $500 or 2 for $900.
if anyone knows any cheaper in the NY/NJ area please leave a comment
That is about what I paid 3 years ago at the local Jag dealer here in RI. Fortunately the KY was not required as they did comp me the programming labor cost and seller of the car picked up the rest of the cost. Took 3 months to get the emergency key as it had to be made at the factory in England and COVID shut downs had just started.
Is there another forum member near you with access to SDD? You can get used fobs on Ebay that have been divorced from their original vehicle. All fobs you want to add to the car must be present during programming.
Why pay more? Of course, you'll have to pay to have it programmed to your car (together with your existing Smartkey). Google local locksmiths, as some have the equipment to do it. You'll also have to pay to have the emergency key cut.
IMPORTANT - FOR 2007 MODELS
I noted that per the OP's Public Profile, CassXK has a 2007 XK (North American market). The above Smartkey on Ebay may or may not work, depending on the VIN. There were two different Smartkeys for the 2007 Model Year, and they're not interchangeable.

Check your VIN. If you are earlier than 12815, you'll need a single-channel FOB. I learned this the hard way, but the information is in these forums for those who dig deep!

You have a non functioning Smartkey with a correctly cut and presumably functioning key blade. You can therefore reclassify outrageous to not required.and reduce the above $990.39 to $671.00.
You may have read on our current model forums or in the media that there is a shortage of genuine Smartkeys and Jaguar Dealers are supplying new vehicles with only one Smartkey and a promise to supply a second Smartkey when they become available. If your dealer or an independent can't even get one, cost then becomes a secondary consideration.
