As I mentioned in a related thread, I've been frustrated that the money I spent with a Jaguar indie didn't get me a working dock/slot/whatever. Everyone, including that Jaguar indie, told me it didn't matter. I'd never need to use it. Keep a few spare batteries, etc. Now, I agree that it's a very high probability I will never need to use the dock. But I can think of several scenarios where I would - such as dropping your keys into a puddle while fumbling in your pocket on the the way to the car (I've done this); leaving your keys in your trousers when you put them in the washing machine (I've done this); leaving your keys on a kitchen worktop that then gets flooded (I've killed an iPhone this way), and finally parking the car near a strong source of RF interference - which Jaguar points out in the manual.

I have been trying to work out how the car got to this situation and my best guess so far is this: some time in the past, one of the original smart keys was lost. The owner decided to take the cheap route and get an auto locksmith to program a second fob to the KVM. All good except that new key won't work in the dock. Some time later, that or a subsequent owner loses another key - which just happens to be the remaining original key. I'm left with just the third-party programmed key and the ability to add more keys to the KVM but not the ability to program keys to the ICM. The "official" solution would be to swap out the ICM for a new one (which Jaguar handily supply with two new pre-paired keys apparently) at gawd knows what cost.

The moral of this story, which I wish I'd known when I bought the car, is to check before purchase that at least one of the smart keys is accepted by the dock and, if not, make the dealer fix this before you buy the car.

Bocatrip - sorry for the non-response to your question of 8/8. I know it has been answered before, but yes, the blank fits into the fob easily.
