LCD screen locked again

Tom - I can understand your frustration.
The battery minder staying on your car when it is sitting at home will keep your battery "topped off". When you drive it to work and let it sit there with the battery having started off at full capacity it may avoid the condition when you come back out to drive home.
Again I also recommend getting a high capacity AGM battery.

I bought and installed a new AGM battery after Jaguar claimed (one two occasions while I was under warranty) that my batteryand alternator "checked out" good. My 08 XK is a DD, it may sit for a day or two during bad weather.
My drive to work is just at 15 miles and takes between 30 and 40 minutes. I would think that would be sufficient to charge the battery after it's morning start up.
Most of my occurances happen while the car sits at work for 9 hours or so. I really don't have any ability to use a battery tender under these circumstances.
Very annoying on an car this expensive.

I also have this problem, I wrote down when it happened, and it's like once per month, summer and winter. I'm a daily driver, so battery power should not be the problem. I can leave it for a week, start and it will work.
Every time this happened, I tried different things to make it work right away, and I've come up with this procedure:
After starting the car, and the screen is locked on the jaguar leaper, I turn it off, release the brake and push the start button again (so the engine doesn't start) I turn it off again, wait 5 seconds and start normal. 9 out of 10 times it will work after that.
Not much of a solution, but a workaround.
It's like a computer that locked on startup and needs a reboot.
Sad there seems to be no fix...

Mine was also giving me all sorts of wierd elec probs. Including locked home screen. I eventually worked out that my lead acid battery (wrong one) although only 3mths old was the culprit. I needed a AGM battery. Maintains a higher voltage than lead acid ones. All seems good now. I use my xkr every day so you would think that that was enough to keep the battery topped up. Doesn't seem the case. I also do a double push on the lock button on the remote. This puts the computers into sleep mode. I had my local battery guy hook up a voltage reader to the xkr without me locking the doors. Wow she sure likes the voltage. Even on single lock push she sucks up the voltage. So i always double push lock on remote. So far so good......Hope this helps.

I bought my '07 XK new in April of '06. It was one of the first cars Hornberg Jag in Santa Monica had. I started having screen locking problems very soon after I bought the car. I lived in a condo so I always locked the car and it's a daily driiver. Each time I took the car in to check it out, they couldn't find anything wrong.
I moved to La Quinta recently and took the car to Desert European Motors in Rancho Miirage. David, the Jag service said there is a fix for the problem and which cost a little over $200.00 so I put it in. It's only been a couple of weeks but so far so good.

Rey here is what the service order says, "S121 performed reprogramed HLDF. 843 CPJ, parts $217.50.
69672 Performed reprogramed HLDF display. Found needs software update, performed reprogramed HLDF disllay, tech bulletin JTB00149".
In retrospect, I hope they didn't just give me the 2011/2012 database update as I bought that about a year ago and it didn't help the frozen screen.

My 2008XKR has issues at times, seems to be cold weather and or sitting for extended period, or maybe phase of moon, but no real pattern. One time, I drove directly to dealer with system locked. Of course after diving into unit, issue went away!
I suspect that the Jaguar tools available to dealers are very lacking in diagnostic features, low voltage and intermittent in the MOST system would to be almost not possible to trouble shoot. Jaguar needs a good on-board diag. tool to put in car and have it trap the logic when things go bad. Dealers can make brave attempts but one is lucky to trap and correct the problem.
They need some better code in the on board computer for this issue. Likely we will be reading about this problem for years.
Those of us that wrestle with this can only hope some clever Jaguar software person gets interested in this issue and gets funded to work on it.

Steveinfrance,
Thanks for that information. I had noticed that after mine sits for a few days that I get Cruise Control Not Available. But after driving, it doesn't come back. I had locked the car in the garage the other day without knowing it. I drove it to a funeral and I didn't have the problem anymore. I have noticed when going by the car that the screen wakes up even without my fob with me.
