LOL, no, I would buy a XK, then join the community. Right now I am a tire kicker. I have my eyes on a light blue with 50,000 miles w Portfolio Collection. Non turbo.

I have a 2008 XK convertible and love it. The car is wonderful. However, I get in enough trouble with the police with my XK. I cannot imagine the trouble I would be in if I had the XKR. But there is a part of me that wishes I had the XKR.
There are a few known problems to look for. The leather on the dash sometimes pulls away. The rear window sometimes separates. The battery going low can cause all kinds of gremlins. Water pump / cooling system parts can occasionally cause trouble - the pump more-so on the 5.0 liter versions. There is a "duckbill" that may stick closed, causing AC condensate water to overflow into the passenger footwell.
In the year or so that I have had mine, I have had the rear window begin to separate a little. I fixed it with Rhino glue per the suggestion on this site, and it has worked so far. I expect to have to fix it again as the other sections separate. I also just changed the brake pads at ~50,000 miles. My entertainment system sometimes locks up - possibly a low battery voltage issue but not sure. I replaced the battery shortly after getting the car. I have changed the oil. Otherwise, it has been flawless and I have driven it over 25,000 miles in the past year or so. I am very happy with mine.

I would still love the 5.0 XKR but after we thought more about it, we live in the "red light district". She doesn't need 510 HP to hop from red light to red light. Maybe I'll get one for myself someday

That said, our local club did a drive last weekend and there were a few XKs of various years and a couple F-Types (among other models). No racing going on but there were a few areas where we got to open it up a bit. They are all fast!

Ya know, about the only difference between those two cars you listed is a bit softer ride in the XK, more comfort in the XK, more class in the XK, and........ well, probably about the same performance. Not QUITE because of a marginal weight and power difference, but not much at all.
