Junkyards are full of cars that slid off the road on one of those two days of snow.
Take Arizona, you have to go through Flagstaff on I40- it has ice and snow on the ground right now. Same with all the states on your list except FL.
I know what you are saying, when its going to be cold why drive the XK...
When I took delivery of my car, I had to drive through the Carolinas, my first time, snow and ice the whole way, freak snow storm in the mountains, I would not have made it on summer tires. Point being, it never fails, just when you think you dont need it, ever.

Unlike summer tires, the DWS tire compound will grip below 40°F.

Stuart
Thx Stuart I was wondering if they were on your XJ. I'm mildly aware of the very strange weather that is Atlanta. The God forsaken heat is well known and you guys hit the news cycle at least once a year like an episode of Ice Road Truckers.

Thanks. Yes of course! I do in fact recall getting caught in a snow squall in Sedona in July/August once. It makes sense. Oddly enough, only summer tires for me here in Minnesota, but the cars a garage queen. I'll prolly check out the Hankooks when the time comes. I occasionally hear good things ( as with this thread) and have yet to hear anything bad. Thanks gentlemen.

I was going to say that!
Where I live at 5000 foot altitude, it's hot in the summer but spring has cold days and nights, and so does fall. Night temps can be in the 30s in September, although not super common. Same with April. It was 86 f at my house today, but two nights ago it was 37. Having a more cold-friendly tire would help extend the (safe) driving period by a few months. Course, sometimes it's 75 in January, so who knows.

Most people are unaware that Atlanta is in a forest in the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains and is 1,050 feet above sea level. It has one of the highest elevations among major cities east of the Mississippi River. Of course, that's nothing compared to west of the Mississippi.

P.S. Another factoid, albeit debatable, is that Peachtree Street wasn't named after peaches. That street was lined with pine trees that dripped sticky sap that turned black and was like epoxy. It was called pitch, and that street was originally named Pitch Tree Street. As Terminus (the previous name of Atlanta, because that's where the train lines converged) grew and became more cosmopolitan (taken loosely), Pitch Tree Street was given a more hospitable name. Atlanta today has more streets with "Peach" in their name than Georgia Bulldogs have fleas. See the Nomenclature Section:
https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Peachtree_Street

Putting all season tires on a XKR is liking putting clogs on a race horse.

@Mufc , I agree. Sadly where my car is located my summers are only useful for 4 months. But that’s a very good 4 months!

Red face

I have the Coni's now but the last set were Sumitomo's, decent tire and better pricing for those with "happy feet".

You got rid of the TR8? TVR? BSA? Norton? I don't know if I could have done that.

Always liked the idea of the TR8. Yank out engine and drop in 8 cylinder! And I have always liked everything about the TVR line. Such a bespoke and outlandish approach...

Believing your Jaaaguar XKR is a track-car on a track may be an even bigger fantasy.
Especially when the downside to that fantasy is a wreck and twice the tire wear.

Ironically, while it can never be a go cart- it is an excellent All-rounder.

You asked for it @Robert Bradshaw :-). Truly, I think you will be very happy with the Conti’ DWS or the Michelin (don’t tell a few here I said that) Pilot sport AS. Both are quiet, dependable, satisfactory handling tires in most conditions. I would like to endorse Bridgestone but as strange as it may be, I have no first hand experience.

Be interesting to hear your opinion, but then what tires did they replace?
So, could hear no noise to my tastes, keep in mind the run flats have more dampening material inside than the regular AS3+.
But the big news is- what a tire! the agility is incredible due to stiffer side wall that even the Michelin tires that are famous for it. Like my old ones.
And the grip is amazing. Which I was not expecting, its a 500 threadwear rated tire vs 360 for MPS4.
Car feels like a kitten.

I must have hurt the OP"s feelings when I defended myself against his accusation that I was rude to him because he hasn't been back to this Forum since April 28.

That's his loss. I really was trying to be helpful. Life goes on ...

We do have 70,000 fewer people in the country now.
Who knows how many have had to swap their speedsters for wheelchairs.

I have the Michelin ps4s rear and Conti sport contact front

I found it difficult to find a shop that could change the low profile tires without damaging the 20 inch rims. Can anyone share what is the best practice for that?

Insist that the tire technician use ONLY your OEM Jaguar socket wrench to remove and reinstall your lug nuts and torque them to 92 ft. lbs. Otherwise, he may bugger the outer shell of the 2-piece OEM lug nuts and make them difficult to remove. I also insist that they use hand tools.
