Default Main Dealer or Indy

My glorious 2011 XK is due its 10 year anniversary 135k service. Its done 90k miles. £550 the quote. Always serviced by main dealer til last year. Bit nervous now that the timing belt could start to play up. Getting a very occasional intermittant engine management warning (diagnostic says cam shaft sensor) . Back to the main dealer or stick with the Indy? Any Views..... please.....?

Does your Indy pay for access the to jaguar system for servicing? Mine does.

Is it a big service (B if IRRC) of the smaller one (A)? If smaller it's overpriced. With the B service that'll include the air filters & cabin filter

Have you checked out the price of the CSPS and ask Indy how much to fit? Maybe worth getting the plugs done as they are due at 105k miles.

Oh, your signature doesn't state where you are in the UK, but could be as accessing on my phone?
Thanks for the reply. Bigger service and It includes the belts so thinking its not too bad. I'm in N Derbyshire. Will check with the indy but I believe so. Thanks again.

Whereabouts in Worksop are you, I may have seen you around. £550 even for a B service is £200 more than it should be.

When you say timing belt, do you mean timing chains or serpentine belt? The serpentine belt should indeed be changed on time at ten years, as should the plugs in a 5 litre. I would always stick with indy, better quality of work.

There's no timing belt on any X150, they are chain driven.

Just went and looked at my last years BIG service at my Indy and it was £316.44 inc VAT

But at the same time I and the diff oil changed (supplied by me) and I also supplied K&N air filters and OEM pollen filter (the latter bought off ebay for half the price)

So less the £78 inc VAT for diff labour

Means that the total would have been £238.44 inc VAT, so looks like at £550 you're being charged £250+ for the filters, me old son!

Oh, my Indy subscribes to the Jag system so their service shows up on a dealer print out

They are doing my minor service at the end of the month + new SC nose assembly + SC oil change + new SS upper pulley + spark plugs + change to evans waterless coolant for £700 inc (I've bought everything as was over £120 cheaper for me to get the SC bits from my main dealer with my 15% discount)

Oh I think the CSPS is AJ811224 if so they are around £40, a little fiddly to fit on other cars I've done, but honestly don't know it's position on our 5.0 engine

Very interesting how we all have different perspectives.
Granted, I have been to dealerships that I wouldn’t go back to; but also there are Independents I won’t go back to either.

The comment concerning a jaguar maintenance subscription is valid. But shouldn’t we also consider a shop’s experience and history with the model?
I really cannot say enough positive about my dealership. They look after me well, provide good value and always make room for me in their busy schedules. Moreover, solutions are geared towards my needs even if they deviate from the text book answer.

In my mind it boils down to a trusted relationship.

Guy

True, but I have spoken to many people that have been going to the same garage for XXyrs and won't go anywhere else*, one such couple was quoted £1200+VAT for a new steering rack on a (then 17yr old compact car) I showed them that:

a) You could have bought almost two whole used cars of the same year with that sort of money
b) That a new steering rack was £220 and a recon £170
c) That a decent mechanic could do the job in around 2hrs

But they would dream of using anyone else because they 'had a good relationship'

*I did want to point out that they were stupid and that the garage had probably changed hands 4 times since they'd been going there!

PS: They were pensioners and I was volunteering at Citizens Advice and they came into see if they could get any help towards the repairs from any sort of public fund

. The quote was with the S belt changed . After checking I agree It does look as though I need the Spark Plugs (and other bits ) too as the 105k Service was not done at year 9 (105K)..
Thanks JimBovfar I'm not far away at Whitwell so no doubt our paths will eventually cross if you are in Worksop!

Not too far from me, I’m over the other side at Carlton.
See if you can get a quote from Chris Isles, the Jaguar Specialist at Doncaster. It’s where I take mine and any servicing is uploaded to the website as well as being stamped in your book.

I used a trusted Indy in the West Midlands my mate recommended, he and many others swear by him.
That ftard was useless...my mot failed because of brake fluid all over the back wheel because he didn't even replace the washer. All of the issues he failed to fix i ended up fixing. But he has a great and trusting relationship with all of his loyal following. He's pricey too but gives the impression he is cheap.
