Default Map & Courtesy Lights

Hi all!
I don't think my courtesy lamps or the side dome lights have worked for the entire time I've owned my '07 XK Convertible. It's only recently started bothering me. A tech was able to activate the courtesy lights when he had diagnostic tools hooked up, but they don't come on on their own. I've tried holding the button for the center dome light (Which works) for 4 seconds multiple times. I see the lamp pulse to indicate the reset was successful, but the situation does not change. Pushing the side buttons does nothing. Is my whole overhead light console fried? Any other ideas?

All those bulbs are powered by one fuse F12 in the central junction box - the switches just ground the some of the bulbs to light. I would try that first. The fade control in the aux junction box may have failed - if the glove box light works that would most likely rule out fuse F12.

So Fade Control and F12 are two different fuses? Am I understanding that correctly?

I don't think so, I think the fade control works on the ground side of the bulbs.

Do the RH and LH maps lights work:

I'm guessing the bottom switch master_light_sw is what you are calling the "magic reset". This powers on and off (off with the door open and closed with the delay). But if that is not doing it's thing then the control electronics tied to it and the delay fade control are probably tied together. With these schematics you can only go so far. A well experienced Jag tech may be able to diagnose this.

Does the passenger side door illuminate the lights or is it same as drivers?

When you say neither are you referencing the RH and LH map lamps?

Yes, sorry. Only the center map light turns on, neither the LH or RH do. Neither courtesy light turns on.

Ordered an overhead console unit as my tech suggested that may be the culprit. Will update.

well good luck I hope it works out for you. My map lights in my 06S type R still don’t work I made a post about it. I even took the console out and did everything I could to try to resolve it but I had no luck. My system is very similar to yours. I think in my post I may have stated that when you open the door, the courtesy and map lights come on but to tell you the truth I can’t recall if it’s just a courtesy light that comes on or courtesy and map because now that it’s not working correctly only the courtesy light comes on and the map lights don’t come on no matter what I do , I’ve also noticed that I’ve lost a cigarette ashtray light and the glove box light Not sure about the door lights, but I do have the lights in the visors working, and the footwells lights working. According to dyskinetic, some of those things are tied together, but for the life of me, I gave up once I realized I couldn’t take the center overhead console apart because it’s all Plastic welded together.

heres my post. https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/s...rking-267327/#

I just got my overhead console. After installing it the map lights work on both sides, but the courtesy lights still don't appear to be working. I'll try again at night.

The console is one piece and you have to pry it out of the headliner.

Getting better.

Do the puddle lights at the bottom of the car door work?

I'm guessing you checked the courtesy light bulbs?

Light bulbs work, but the lights at the bottom of the doors still don't seem to.

All four of the lamps trace back to the fade control in the aux junction box. Must be a module in there. Maybe a Jag tech would know about the issue, possibly a re-flash of a module.

There was the attached TSB issued for the earlier cars that was to do with inoperative puddle lights after a software update so if your car is in the VIN range and they have never worked it might be worth checking that out.

Good find, too bad that Jagdocs.c.om website no longer exists.

According to the TSB causal part is C2P15083, which is a programmable module. Superceeded by CP217260. Looking at the schematics the puddle lamps seem to be on there own and not necessarily tied with the courtesy lamps - edited to add - thinking about it there would be no need for the puddle lights to fade as the courtesy lamps are designed to do.

I had my tech run this TSB thinking it was the issue. As it turns out I do not have puddle lamps, only courtesy lights

So you don't have lights at the bottom of the door towards the rear?
