I agree. Stretching it 5" or so to give it a usable back seat and updating the electronics to current state of the art standards (my only real complaint with my XKR) would slot nicely between the F-Type and XF, but it must remain a 2-door. At about the same current price point, or even a little more, it will kill the other large 2-door coupes like the BMW 6, MB CL, Maserati GT, and AM DB9 that all have real back seats. To me, the only unknown is how Jaguar will change the overall styling--chances are good it will follow the current family resemblance and, depending on the execution, will determine if it's still a viable choice for me.

The current XK is long in the tooth. Interior is old at this point, and exterior doesn't have the forward thinking cues to carry it another decade. It's beautiful and classic, but it does need a new generation. Aston can get away with slow evolution as their sales aren't so high and cater to a very narrow audience. If you want an Aston, you want an Aston... It's not like I looked at Lexus/Acura and bought an Aston.
I expect to see new designs from Aston in semi-near future. Current Vantage is getting old looking too.

hmmm, I don't think that it is the overall body shape that is looking old - that will never get tired. But the front end and the back end would probably look dated against the new crop (as much as I like them as they are). Even the Aston front and back is getting a little ho hum, although I like the new bigger grill especially on the zagato. And as for the interior, yes I suppose coming from the 2012 XF which I thought was very flash inside, it has a nicer layout than the XKR but even though the technology sells, there are drawbacks. I found the new style touchscreen too busy (hard to use when you are driving), and much slower.

The current xk/xkr design is a classic. As others have already said all I would like to see are a few exterior style tweaks, updated electronics, 8 speed tranny and a possible addition of 6" to the back seat leg room adding only enough height to accommodate an occasional adult in the back seat.

exactly!
keep the 5.0 v8
new tweaks to the body, wheels, bodykit
new colors
8 speed auto
new electrical gadgets etc
just like how Porsche does it. 996 to 997 to the newest model (keep it if it works and slowly tweak it!)

The XK/R's aren't selling. That's the biggest issue with the line.
How many of you have bought a brand new XK/R off the lot? I have never bought a brand spanking new one, only used. If I had millions of dollar I guess losing 30K in 12 months wouldn't be an issue for me.
The sales of XK/R's have really gone down. it affect Jags bottom line.
If the platform is updated maybe that would help. But that's what Jag is doing...we just don't know to what degree they are doing the tweaks...other than the general info we have.

Look at the Corvets, completely new car and a much lower price making it more affordable to the average buyer, but do you want to see XKR at evey corner?
Jag owned by India company Tata who's mangering director just past away unexpecited the other day from a fall out of a hotel. They hold the coin.
Looked at some 2014 XK, XKR FS. MFG suggested price for the XK coup was 89K the vert 91-93K, XKR 95. FS 103K.

Wikipedia: A sports car (sportscar) is a small, usually two seat, two door automobile designed for spirited performance and nimble handling. Sports cars may be spartan or luxurious but high maneuverability and minimum weight are requisite.
I don't see any weight specified in the above definition.
I also don't consider 3514 lbs (weight of the F Type Coupe) to be too heavy to be considered a sports car. The Audi R8 is 3514 lbs; the Corvette C7 Stingray is 3400 lbs; the Mercedes SLS AMG GT weighs 3900 lbs; the Lamborghini Aventador weighs 3472 lbs. The F Type coupe with the optional carbon fiber roof and breaks will be at least another 100 lbs lighter coming in at 3400 lbs maybe less. Sports cars these days are heavier, especially luxury sports cars but they are still sports cars. They can get away with it because of the advances in suspension and tires. I agree that it's at the heavier end of the sports car spectrum but it is a true sports car. The Porsche Carrera 4S is 3230 lbs. The Ferrari 599 Italia is 3267 lbs. Not exactly feather weights.
Are you going to eliminate the F Type coupe from the sports car category because of 150 lbs? If so, you are going to have to eliminate quite a few other cars including the Lamborghini Aventador, Audi R8, Mercedes SLS AMG GT and the Corvette C7 Stingray and probably a hell of a lot more. I have a feeling a lot of people are going to disagree with you.

I'd like to see the front and rear end of the XK model changed to resemble the C-X75, an 8 speed transmission, updated interior and better electronics added and I think they will have a winner, but don't make it larger.
Advertise it along side of the F-type as a sport car for the people that desire more room than a roadster to give the car an edge. Maybe even change the model name form the XK to an XR or something to give it a fresh start so people will view it as a new model.
As suggested above, Jaguar needs to be innovative, also, in its financial department to make its cars more attractive to compete with other manufactures. The general opinion of prospective buyers is that they love the car, but can't get over the unfavorable steep depreciation. Jaguar needs to address the core reason for the unfavorable preserved customer opinion, concerning depreciation, so Jaguar cars can compete. As I understand most independent leasing companies factor in more depreciation for Jaguar cars making them unattractive.

Several actual road tests showed the v8 to be over 4000 lbs. That is far too heavy, being nearly the same weight as the huge XJL. Just got careless with the engineering.
