the Jag ran a respectable 1/4 mile time but I would have expected it to do a little better than it did. Looked like it fell asleep at the start...

After viewing the drag race video and the longer Best Driver's Car video, I'm reminded to the historical Porsche bias of the American auto media. It does not matter how it finishes at the bottom of most performance categories, they always manage to name it the best car of the year. Never mind that a couple of Motor Trend's own recent tests of the 911 variants complained how scary the rear engined Porsche handled.
It is very difficult to pick a Best Driver's Car. So many variables exist. There were periods in my life when I considered my Lamborghinis the best even though they had likely as many compromises as the Avantador. But, they surely turned heads like nothing else, sounded fantastic and felt like wild animals under me. Then, there were times when I considered my modified Mustang or Turbo RX-7s the best for their pure street performance capabilities; they both beat everything on the road, damn the everyday comfort compromises.
Today I would likely pick the XKR-S from that selection. Not because it has the best handling, which it obviously does not. But, it would fit my lifestyle and needs the best at this very stage. The Porsche? It will always be the very last on my lists as long as it comes with the engine hanging out behind the rear axle.
