No Joy. The Bowers Wilkins in my 2010 pops up with the Disk Error on all the MP3 disks I shove into it. The disks are good as my wife's 2015 RX350 plays them fine.
Stupid, because I have a stereo I put into my 1995 Mustang in 2002 that plays MP3s all day long.
Maybe because there's the USB port, that's where I have the 128GB stick with almost 9,000 songs.
Still Cheese though.

It either has to be the type of discs you are using, the file structure or an issue with the head unit or how your are burning or finalizing the discs. Mine works just fine and it is the same as yours.

So, then why would they work in the wife's Lexus if I messed up on the disks?

Is it the same head unit as the Lexus? Some drives are not as forgiving. I had a car, can't Renner which one, that did not like a particular brand of burnable media. Could also be file structure. Also are you finalizing the disc?

Of course like I said your drive could be defective.

Of course I finalized the disk.
I see you have a 2008, while I have a 2010. Yours a Bowers Wilkins? Do you also have the USB dock in the center console?
I've tried three disks, using different programs and different brand disks, using different .mp3 files. All still work on the wife's car. Audio CDs work fine on both mine and hers.

I have a 2012 and have made several MP3 discs that play with no issue. My first XK that was totaled also had no issue with MP3 playback. I use any random CD-R that is on sale and have yet to find a brand that does not work well. The MP3's that I copy on to the disc are all from a variety of unknown sources using who-knows-what Codec. I copy the files onto the disc with the Windows File Explorer, also the Wife has used Itunes to burn, no issue either way.

My point is that you will have some tell you that you need certain disc types, MP3 Codec, correct burner program. I have found that is not the case but it may be that your car is more particular and you have to find the magic combination that works.

I had seen this issue with BMW crowd, it seems some guys had systems that just would not work well with MP3's or had a system that refused to play any disc thrown into it...

Then I have to assume there is an issue with your drive. Maybe do a hard reset on the headunit. Yes we have the same system and I have the USB port for a thumb drive of MP3s also with no issues. There could also be a firmware update, do you know how to access the service
Menu through the touch screen to check software versions? You could also take it to your dealer to check with SDD.

This made me think of an additional troubleshooting step.

Cee Jay, have you tried playing MP3's from a thumb drive plugged into the center console USB? If they play fine from the USB then it indicates you perhaps have an issue with the drive (although it plays regular CD's so who knows in that case).

But, if it will not play from the USB either then a different approach is needed, firmware, reset, etc. like Jahummer is suggesting.

MP3s have and do always work great through the USB dock.
It's late and I'm tired. I'll try stuff tomorrow.

Well, I have no idea what it could be, USB works but disc doesn't, disc reads regular CD's but won't read MP3 data disc.

I had two identical '12 XK cars, the first would not work with a Tune2Air adapter, would pause after one second on Wife's Iphone no matter what I tried. After reading dozens of threads from all makes and build Jag's I concluded that I had done all I could.

When I got my replacement XK four months ago decided to give it a shot again, bought the Tune2Air again and it works perfect. I didn't compare the firmware between the two cars so don't know if that was a factor.

Weird stuff I tell you.

CeeJay, it may be the computer you use to burn the discs. The Alpine system in my '07 will play any and all discs as long as they are not MP3's. It will not play MP3's created on my computer however I have a stack of old MP3 discs created on my old computer out of the same box of CD-R's I am trying to use now and they work fine. Same as you have found, the MP3's made on my current computer play fine in my SRX and in my wife's Toyota. I have asked a friend to take one of the discs I made on the current computer and use his computer to rewrite it on to a blank I supplied. We will see how that goes in a couple of days.

Well, I reinstalled a ten-year-old version of NERO Burning ROM on my computer and tried again.......
Wee! Now every .mp3 I burn onto any disk work great. Since I can fit 200+ songs on each disk, it would take me only 45 full Burnt CDs to not need my USB stick! No, don't think I'll do that.
I'll burn a bunch of my most-played songs on some and leave them in the Player for a bit since the USB GUI on the Display to find folders is pretty slow on the Jag. Going through 510 Folders takes quite a long time. Yes, 510. I have each Artist in their own folder.

Yeah, that is why I don't use the USB and a memory stick. It become too unmanageable in my book, easier to create MP3 disc's with specific mixes that me and the Wife enjoy.
