Muffler delete sound increase

Although you shed 35lbs and have a less restrictive exhaust, I was happy with my x pipe, #19 fuse gone along with both resonators. Recently I replaced my cats that have 100 or 200 less cells. Again I was happy because I liked the change in tone and the minimal volume increase. Besides the performance benefits (for sure if I have my guy tweak the tune), the final push is and don’t laugh, the exhaust tips I want to install. Factors are with the work being done and cost if they aren’t removed. I’ll keep it at that so we don’t diverge from the big question for those of you that chopped it off or did your exhaust system without it. Ive watched tons of videos for sound and even had a guy say it really didn’t raise it significantly. Maybe you guys have some small dual mufflers or a resonator that you added? My biggest concern is a big increase in db while daily driving vs only when I get on the throttle hard.

Dont do it. Its going sound like a tractor, and worse is going to create an inability to drive it without sounding like youre already on the throttle at low speeds, the bottom of the rev range will sound awful. I say get your hearing checked if you feel like an XKR with open exhaust box valves is not loud enough.

If you do weird things you may very well end up with a horrid droning. Rancho 50 or whatever it is tried something similar and it droned so bad he had to modify the entire exhaust several times before it was livable again.

Looks like there are a couple very affordable “performance” turbo exhausts that use a combo of baffles, insulation and double walled steel to dampen sound while still trying to keep air flowing as best as possible. I’ll try to get a sound clip (good or bad) for people contemplating tossing their muffler.

I got the davico vehicle specific. I believe they have 200 less cells. Im really happy with sound, minimal volume increase and price. Part of it was they were the only company that shipped the 49 state legal cats to me here in Cali, but you won’t have that problem in Texas. How long they last I don’t know, but I sold my oem cats to rrcats for twice as much as the new ones.

Brewtech,
I bought my Mina exhaust from another XKR forum member many years ago. The Mina exhaust is NOT as loud or menacing as the OEM one. This is the reason the previous owner sold me his. I confirmed this in person when forum member Ralphwg and I met a new XKR owner years ago for lunch and we started all three cars and revved a bit. My Mina was the quietest and least menacing much to my chagrin. So if you're wanting more rather than less sound, you may want something else. Since I'm also in L.A. near Mina, if you want to hear mine, you're welcome to come by. Of course, my car now has 199,000 miles on it, so it may be a little different than a new one.

I'm the Ralphwg Ted spoke about in his posting. I have the Mina back box and quad tips on my 2013XKR. I really like the setup. When I down shift in 4th,3rd, or 2nd I get a nice gentlemanly overrun which is not to obtrusive and the car sounds great at the start even in normal. I highly recommend the Mina back box. I live in the Palisades. If you want to set up a meet drop me a pm ans we can set up a date.
