MY 2010 Tail Light Upgrade Revisited
#42
I did get a response and, reading between the lines, it looks like it's supposed to work without modification on european spec'd LHD cars.
But it's possible that
a) my original lamps are rated lower than euro lamps - original fog and reverse have 12V 3.2W where the new lamps have 5W for rev and 7W for fog (on ech side) - which is quite a big jump in current.
b) different years may have different output ratings on the AJB for the fog and reverse.
c) maybe there's a setting in the AJB firmware to adjust current output for different markets.
I'd be curious to find out the rating of the 06-09 rog/rev lamps fitted to Euro and US cars.
Anyhow - here's a quick and dirty schematic of the resistor wiring I used with the caveat that it may only be valid for RHD cars sold in New Zealand (note: the center pin on each of the 3 pin connectors is the ground wire (black/white) on the original harness).

Jallitt,
Were you able to install these with the weather stripping from the existing tailights applied? I just got a set for my 08 XKR. They fit fine until I apply the weather stripping. When I look at the profile, there is less space at the top for the weather stripping on the LEDs than on the original equipment.
Not exactly plug and play thus far. The tail lights function fine without the dash warning, but the fog and reverse don't work at all. And since they did not include the promised "step by step illustration", I'm not certain the wiring is correct on those. They mark a pink lead, but don't say if pink is the + or -. Tried both ways with the same result though. They originals are back on and work fine.
Since these were the wife's anniversary gift, she's just not happy
BTW the answer to your question. LHD North American. Fog is 3.2w 12v and Rev is 4.2w 12V.

The weather strip on the 2010 light is indeed a different profile and quite thin. I ended up using some stuff from an auto parts store... It would be nice if it was included...
Re - the fog and rev: I have their instructions. PM me your email address and I'll forward them to you. The pink pin is supposed to go to the black/white wire on the existing harness on each side. If either side is wrong then you won't get an earth and the lamps won't light i.e there are 4 possible combinations they can be connected but only one will work. Interesting that the original US rev light is a higher rating than mine was.

Thanks for the information. I PM'd you my email. That method of wiring is the first I tried. I'll do it again to be certain all the connections were good. The lack of information on the weather stripping is a pretty big oversight on their part. Especially when they say it's everything you will need.

Finally got the kit installed but had a couple problems... The rev and fog light flashing which I fixed thanks to jallitt's directions (you the man)
Also, every morning when I use the driver's side turn suignal I get a bulb out warning in the dash with fast inciator clicking inside even though all lights are working fine outside. The passenger side works flawlessly. The weirdest part is this only happens in the morning, later in the day no bulb out warning is triggered.
I should mention the turn signal problem is isolated to my car, not the kit, in fact they sent me a second kit free of charge just to test it. So I have to find out what's wrong with the car that causes this.
If anyone knows the cause of this or a possible solution I'd really appreciate it.
Overall the look is fantastic and despite the problems I would say this is a must do mod.

Bad Resistor
Hey Ghostrider, The bulb out warning I haven't been able to fix but the blinking definitely sounds like a bad resistor or not enough OHM. My rear fog lights blinked like that b/c the resistor I had in was too low resistance so I changed from a 12 OHM to a 15 OHM and the blinking stopped.
Note: the OHM for the rear tail lights are different values than the rear fogs.
If they change out the resistors it may fix both problems, you may want to have them go up a couple OHMs even but not too much has the lights start getting dimmer if the OHM are higher.
I would first try brand new resistors with the same value OHM George K recommends then increase OHM slightly if you still have problems.

I'd be interested too, however also an idiot when it comes to Electronics.
