Naming / Labelling
Good morning all!
Inspired by recent posts and threads and, by the fact I am procrastinating from other things at the moment;
I thought we should revisit the naming of our cars. All too ofter I see the wrong label being used to identify our cars. That is, not following the plethora of standard naming I’ve identified, below.
I was looking for definitive sources for this data. Unfortunately, these documents too are not consolidated in their descriptions.
Purposely I referenced
1. Curriculum Training - Technical Introduction
2. Workshop Manual
3. Owner’s Handbook
4. Various TSDs
5. TOPIx
6. Identifying labels on the car
7. Electrical Guide
8. Maintenance Check Sheet
9. Jaguar Journal
10. Jaguar Magazine
11. Jaguar marketing material
Some of the names I’ve seen in print in these Jaguar documents are
X150
XKR
New XK (X150)
The New XK
The New XKR
The New XK R
XK N/A
XXXX MY XKR
XXXX MY XK
XXXX XK
X150 - XK
X150 - XKR
XKRS XXXX MY
XK/X150
XK
XK R
Jaguar XK XXXX
New XK XXMY.
And so I’ve come to the conclusion that in fact there is no attention to detail and that there only is one standard; not using the ‘8’.
So, words of advice to the car company: ‘Would you please effing get it together?’
Please Note, I did not use the term titling (to imply ‘titled’) which in this neck of the woods implies ‘licensed, or under ownership.
Thoughts?

True enough, doesn’t explain why even the technical manuals, typically reserved for licensed service providers, they still can’t standardize the names. Notwithstanding, it is a ‘name’. I have one name. It doesn’t matter where in the world I go, I still have that one name. If people decide to mispronounce it… that’s not me. If you call me by another name…. I don’t respond.
I suppose to dumb it down further we should just call it “the second to last version of the car with 2 doors and a hatchback, with the 1st version of the facelift, supercharged”? Hmmm, perhaps I should change my signature block…
