Default Need new drive shaft for '07 XK; part (C2P16566) discontinued

Hello folks,

Well, one problem follows another; after replacing the battery on my '07 XK and taking the car on the road I noticed a repetitive *thunking* sound near the rear of car that also causes intense vibrations when accelerating. Not consistent on every ride but definitely worrisome. Took it to the mechanic who confirmed an issue with the driveshaft...

I looked up the part and it appears to be C2P16566...which seems to be discontinued...tried several dealerships and they confirmed obsolete.

Any other options I could try? Any guidance is much appreciated!

Driveshafts are easily rebuilt. Any reputable driveline/axle/diff shop could help you out.

@jdubsFL what specifically’s failed? Driveshafts rare fail, usually it’s the rubber flex discs which fail and those’re easily replaceable.

Yes listen to jahummer. You might need to replace the Guibo or flexible rubber disc. You will find that Jaguar does NOT sell this separately and will want you to purchase a complete expensive drive shaft.

But it is available from others as a separate part. Hopefully you can find a local shop that is familiar with this.
But here is a thread that might help? He has part numbers too!

Guibo Replacement

If you DIY this make careful note of the bolts and washers to make sure they are put back in EXACTLY the same place as when they were removed. Also be aware that you might well need to re-balance the shaft after replacing the Guibo. But not always.

According to the (3rd party) mechanic, it's the shaft itself...I've asked for a photo. Every parts & salvage outfit I've reached out to so far says a visual is necessary to confirm fitment. I'll post a photo once I have it.

It doesn't even seem that I have the choice since Jaguar no longer sells the assembly. Once I have a photo I may have a better idea of what needs to be replaced...

The shaft you need shows up from time on time on eBay and salvage sites. Not too hard to locate one. There’s a few on eBay now.

Post the pictures if you can? Interested to see what's failed.

I have a hard time seeing what is bad on a drive shaft beyond the Guibo? Since the car has IRS the drive shaft is fixed and just uses these rubber disc's for vibration control because the shaft can't move up and down anymore. No CV joints to go bad?

Several weeks ago while having some work done on my XKR, we had a similar situation on parts of my drive shaft. I am not really sure what the specific part was, but my mechanic called Jaguar, and as previously stated in an above post, Jaguar only sells the entire assembly, no individual components. In doing some research, my mechanic was able to source the part from Mercedes for less than 1/8th the cost of the whole driveshaft from Jag.

This’s the flex disc. There’s a thread about them
on this forum.

Default Noma auto parts

@MacJag222 is on to something here. NOMA has supplied me with 2 replacement diffs, one for my recently purchased 07 XKR and one for my 09 SV8 Portfolio. Dito there helped me be sure the diff I selected would work and was in good shape. I highly recommend them if you go the full replacement route. They buy the best cars they can find and disassemble them carefully. The disassembly guys are professional and dedicated to doing a good job. I highly recommend them and no I'm not affiliated in any way. They've just done a fantastic job for me and I'm happy to recommend them to others. It always makes me glad to find they have a part I'm looking for. I know it will be as good as a used part can be.

Until the OP updates the actual issue, it’s all speculation. I have seen the flex discs fail, the rubber crumbles away. Common at 10-15 years of age, this one’s 18 years old.

Hello folks,

Thank you for all of your feedback and suggestions!

So...upon closer inspection the mechanic ruled out the drive shaft; also, he inspected the flex disc, u-joints, etc. and they look fine. Another suspicion was the rim but since the issue isn't consistent and pops up sporadically he concluded that the rim wasn't the culprit either...

So now we're back to square one. Mechanic is going to do a more thorough inspection.
