NEED: Recommendation for extended warranty purchase

One important fact to consider is that most of these extended warranties are transferable. When I sold my previous car it had around 6 mo left on the Extended warranty- it helped make my car easy to sell and I think I got $1-2 k more due to the warranty. If I were planning to keep a car for many years more I don't think getting a few extras years more of warranty makes sense. However, if I was going to keep my car like 2 to 2 1/2 years more, I would get a 3 yr transferable warranty, so I could recoup a lot of the warranty money when i sell it and the car will sell much quicker.

This is a big advantage, especially in Lemon Law states. Selling a Jag over 7K without a warranty to a private party is no easy feat. Will the higher private party sales price including the investment on the warranty offset trading the car in for less, but saving on the sales tax difference?

Hey Guys,
I'm about to be the proud owner of a new 2012 XK-R convertible (it was Jaguar Canada's show car apparently so it has less than a thousand miles on it). I was pondering this very question about extending the warranty. In my case I have 4 years remaining on the warranty and the dealer is asking $5,000 for an extra two years (Yikes!).
I am inclined to agree with the notion of saving the money now, as it's hard to imagine having $5,000 in repairs occur in that specific 2 year span. If I put half of that in a repair fund, as was suggested by a smart poster earlier, I'm convinced I will come out ahead.
