Default New "Cat" on the block....

I was recently asked my one of our forum members who recently purchased an amazing 2007 Jaguar XKR, which was if you can believe this "lost" in the dealer inventory shuffle.

When I met Christian he came out to the OC Jaguar meet where I was putting on a little clinic and a Mini Detail for Richard on his XJ6

I was asked to evaluate Christians new 2007 XKR and give him and estimate to prep and wrap his new gem with PPF....

Here is a series of pics showing how involved the job was and how well it came out..

This was a finished shot outside with the PPF installed, full coverage on the full front clip, mirrors and lights

Let the (games) wrap begin....

After a thorough prep using the Nanoskin Autoscrub system and Shock, this XKR was ready for double protection.....

Hood vents removed for a clean application

Which brand of PPF do you use, and why do you choose that brand over the others?

Thanks for sharing. I think I'd much prefer it without the film. This is akin to putting plastic on your couch!

And what happens when the film wears out after 5 or 10 years? You have to take it all off and if it's anything like those clear bras, it's a big PITA.

Beautiful job!

Just wondering; how long is the projected life of the cover? Is it warrantied for how long against defects and coloring?

I choose to use either Xpel Ultimate or Suntek Films for the following reasons..

Venture
Pros-

Clean looking film
Installs great

Cons-

Stains very easily
Scratches also very easy
dulls over time

Xpel
Pros-

Great top coat technology
Doesn't stain or scratch easy
Clean looking film

Con's-

The adhesive is very soft on the film and leaves marks behind that shouldn't be there.
Doesn't install well with or without the Gel.

Suntek
Pros-

Very clean film
installs great
doesn't scratch or stain very easy

Cons-

Still none known been using this film for 6 months and haven't had any problems.

amcdonal86,

Thanks for checking out the post.....its just one of those "precautions" many will take just like a couch (back in the days) to ensure premature wear and tear.

Its also like insurance, the cost associated and the hassle of a repaint is a nightmare...nothing beats the factory OEM paint when you can preserve it like this.

Today's newer generation films are virtually invisible and installed properly, especially like the one above which wraps the full front area can not be noticed. When installing an economy kit, which only goes about 24 inches up the hood a transition line can be seen only at the right angle.

Keep in mind that PPF is like a set of tires, its not permanent and it does wear over time while at the same time protecting your investment. Today's newer generation films are also easier to remove and replace versus previous first generation PPF's, so its not that bad....

axr6,

Thank you very much for the compliment!

The projected life of the PPF is about 5-7 years under normal use, under lighter use it may even last longer. It has a manufacturers warranty for 7 years against any defects in the materials...

How did you shape the film around the parking sensors? It looks like you did a great job overall and that it was very painstaking to do so!
