You are low on coolant, probably near the sensor level, and when you move at pace the sensor is covered. However, you should not be driving the car hoping that it goes away when you accelerate. A blown engine is a terrible way to find out your cooling system has a problem. By the way, welcome to the fraternity.

May have misled... coolant level is fine...car is ok underway but when slow conditions on road/town driving it gets hot..no fans running which seems odd. Open road speed is fine.

Sounds like fans should be running so investigate there.

I wouldn't be doing too much experimental driving in that situation without hooking up one of the diagnostics options to monitor actual coolant temperature. The Jaguar V8 does not respond well to overheating - it can go rapidly from hot to terminal.

Barlow, welcome to the forum.

It may be useful if you posted

1) How long you've had the car and how many miles covered
2) How recently has the problem manifested itself
3) Have you had any work to the car prior to fault occurring
4) If a new purchase and in warranty period take it back to supplying garage
5) Your location, from what I've googled there's only one Prebbleton and that's in NZ (essential if any close forumites can pop by and diagnose for you)

Hope you Get it sorted
