Default New Member: Good evening, everyone.

I'm not currently a Jaguar owner, but if things go well for me job-wise in the next 3 weeks, I may be in a position to purchase a previously owned 2014-15 XK, if the price, mileage and history of the vehicle are acceptable. If anyone has any advice on my search, I would be most grateful. Even with a potential new job, I can't afford a money pit, so if I should back off, please let me know!

I have been enamored with Jaguars (especially the XK) for years and even more so after spending 2 WONDERFUL years on active military duty in the UK in 2016-18.

By the way, does anyone recognize what my username "Splendid Cat" is in reference to in British history? Hint: It has to do with the Royal Navy.

Well done, Stuart. Did you have to google it or did you already know it? Just curious. There was another member of the class, the half-sister HMS Tiger. An HMS Leopard was planned, but never built. There was class of frigates in the 50s all named after big cats, which included an HMS Jaguar. Cheers!

I won't answer your question because I don't want to be the cause of your untimely demise. You know what curiosity did to the cat.

Well done to Stuart for quickly picking up on my little trivia question.

As a prospective buyer, you have many questions and this Forum is a wealth of information from knowledgeable owners and techs. You can get the answers to many of your questions by using Google. Simply type in your question followed by "Jaguar Forums X150", and you'll get links to the answers. For example, here's the results for "buying advice 2014 Jaguar XK Jaguar Forums X150":

If you've found "the one", my recommendation is to pay for a Pre Purchase Inspection from a Jaguar dealer using the CPO checklist. That way you'll know what needs to be fixed and have a basis to negotiate a lower price. Also consider a PPI from a Jaguar-approved body shop to check for collision damage and other body repairs. Never rely on CarFax or their competitors to buy a car, as a "clean" CarFax is no guarantee since CarFax reports only what is reported to them and there is a time lag.

Good luck with your quest!

Stuart, my friend, you are a saint! If my potential employment opportunity works out, I'm going to enjoy doing this research over the Christmas holidays. Thanks so much for the direction.

I appreciate the compliment, but I'd rather be alive and driving my Jaguars than be a dead saint.

I think you'll enjoy these old videos. The first explains the all-aluminum and robotic construction that Jaguar first used to manufacture the X150 models.

The second is Jeremy Clarkson's Top Gear entertaining road test of the 4.2L XKR.

What year is your X150? That depends on what the word "year" means. Model year? Production year? Registration year? Because different parts of the world use different meanings, there has been some confusion.

Note that the above X150 Buyer's Guide and other European publications refer to 4.2L models as from 2006 to 2008, and 5.0L models from 2009 to 2014. This Forum uses those years, too. That publication also mentioned the 4.2L 2008 XKR-S, which was a Europe-only model. Jaguar models vary by market.

But in North America (and, I believe, Australia), the 4.2L Model Years began in 2007 and ended in 2009 and the face lifted 5.0L Model Year began in 2010 ended in 2015.

Welcome Splendid Cat
I am also not an owner yet. Hopefully the right car will show up soon.
This forum is indeed a wealth of information and advice on all things Jaguar. Good luck in your quest.

You can:

Model Year and Calendar Year were finally harmonised in January 2014. The Model Year goes back to the time when new models were introduced after the factory shut down for the Summer Holiday in August.

Welcome....

I am a new member to the Jaguar family. I did tons of research on this forum. It is a wealth of knowledge. I also received plenty of great advice from its members. I decided to go with a 2008 4.2 XK. So far, it has been great. I am very pleased. It is plenty fast. Did a Nashville run, a few weeks back, from Birmingham and it was a very enjoyable ride. Good luck with your search!
