As far as I can tell, these oils meet the older Jag oil spec (WSS-M2C925A , not the newer, which Jag dealers/Castrol (STJLR.51.5122) sell. I have no idea what the improvements are addresses n the new Jag spec.

if you use 5W-20 it needs to meet the Ford Spec WSS--M2C925A or Jaguar Land Rover Spec STJLR.03.5004. If you use 0W-20 then it needs to meet STJLR.51.51.22
I am confused, why are there just 5 flavors for 0 - 20 synthetic motor oils; I count at least nine major brands being sold on Amazon and several car manufacturer brands. Plus some other brands like Motul.

In the past viscosity was the only difference in one oil vs the other.
Today in specialty engines viscosity has become almost meaningless.
Because they are able to do more specific things than just flow.
So they formulate specific oils for specific engines now.
Actually the car company is now able to design the engine and the corresponding oil.

I pulled the trigger on Ravenol. It had excellent specs and technical details that I ran past someone.
I was surprised fellas to see that there was more info on this oil from Jaguar owners on amazon than here.
Not surprised that Ravenol had more information to offer than Castrol
Yes the Ravenol works out to be the same price or more than Castrol oil from the dealer.
However, I am not the kind to ever allow myself to be held hostage and bent over a barrel.
I am happy to pay more for convenience and liberty, crying shame that a patriot is forced to buy German.

Yup, less than $10/ea qt but they had plenty on hand and seemed quite pleased to sell to me. I'm not local to any dealerships so I plan ahead to accomodate the next change when visiting the grand kids in Memphis TN. Were it not for that "convenience" or should the dealership not helpful I'd be digging for an alternative of some type as well.

And want to share with all that might be forced to look for an alternative, either of the old spec or the new spec.
Its the ONLY approval it has, and lucky for us, its from Jaguar.

This is a pic from my bottle, I went with 5-20w due to having a lot of the Castrol 5-20 on hand that I needed to finish. On my bottle it further meets the old spec too and got that approval. All very reassuring.

I was in Memphis 2 weeks ago, for the first time in years. Will just start getting my oil there.
BTW $10 or less is a very good price for any oil made from this type of synthetic.
I just noticed something that might be of value to some of you.
If you want to stay with the heavier old spec (5-20w) And you have a 5.0l. The Ravenol is actually better than Castrol.
Ravenol meets ILSAC GF-5 which addresses the shear caused by direct injection soot- i.e. longer timing chain life.
If the Castrol does its a mystery, I am holding a bloody bottle of it in my hand and there is no mention of the GF-5 rating.
They are so alarmingly obscure. The German oil goes on record to even state its POA ingredients, in Castrol it could be coconut oil for all we know and are told.
