No wind noise or any other noise in my 2010XK Coupe at highway speeds. Car is extremely quiet and tight.

That's what I would think with a coupe is solid and tight.

I know where my wind noise is coming from with the vert and corrected most of it by adjusting the hard boot as it was up on the passenger side. Also used some ArmorAll on the seal and that helped. However the driver side is and always was quiet.

Andy, I'd check the seals to see if they are dry or hard and try ArmorAll or some other product that would help with that. Providing there are no noticeable gaps in the windows. I know some people think ArmorAll dries out the rubber but as long as you maintain the seals with it I've never had any issues.

In regards to road noise, I meant I could hear traffic passing in the opposite direction and other cars engines running next to me at lights, and some tire noise but minimal on that. Also that is when I didn't have any music on.

I know my 97 or X100 series vert was dead quiet. You could be having a conversation with someone, put up the top and you couldn't hear them talking when it closed. No noise whatsoever, wind or road. My brother was revving his engine at a light next to me and I couldn't hear it.

Actually made it very tough to troubleshoot issues with the top up as you couldn't hear it. If you did, then something was definitely wrong.

I noticed on my old one when you wore polarized sunglasses the side windows had a crosshatch pattern in them. They were some kind of triple coated glass, sound-proofing or whatever.

Good luck tracking it down but with a coupe you shouldn't have any noise no matter what a dealer tells you. If there is a dealer in your area, take another XK coupe for a test drive and see if its the same.

Thanks guys, I need to find another coupe to test drive and compare. Back around 96 I spent sometime at the Ford plant in Saarlouis as a supplier engineer part of which involved test cars off the production for wind noise and if this was a 96 Ford escort I'd have rated 6 or 7 which would mean its OK to ship but the supplier of the door seal needs to supply corrective action. With that I understand the industry and could easily see it would be difficult to fix and have been deemed acceptable.
All the seals look good and fit the same on both sides. When it gets warmer I might try and trouble shoot with tape. Thanks for the tip I will try Amorall.
The dealer is the local Jag dealer here in Grand Rapids I bought the car from a dealer in Chicago.

As a devote of the various car restoration shows on TV these days - I do recall one show (it happened to be; Wheeler Dealers from the UK) that was working on a DB9. The floor carpeting was getting wet and the issue was assumed to be the window seals. The test they used was a non-toxic smoke machine (more like a fog machine) that filled the cabin with "smoke" and leaked out the offending seal. No idea where you would find such a thing - but it certainly identified the spot.

Of course another of my favorites (Top Gear) would probably just fill the car with water (via a hole in the roof) to see what leaked.

That would be option #2 😉

As a XKR convertible owner the one point I would highlight (and this may be personal to our household) that should be considered (and was not by yours truly) is: "Will your wife (or significant other) ride with you when the top is down?"

I can say to you all that when it comes to the "top down or not?" decision - I get one vote and she gets three.

I predict a coupe is in my future. 😞

Actually a stethoscope works well for finding noise but this is bad enough I'm pretty sure I can pinpoint it, as the top rear corner of the door glass unless its from the fixed quarter light, which seems unlikely.
But I think the Top Gear approach works for me

Funny but after having multiple coupes of various brands we wanted to go to a convertible as our fun car. My bride loves it and as soon as we get in she either puts the top down or asks me to do it. When she takes the car she puts the top down as soon as she is out of the driveway. My last convert was my 63 Corvette and she also loved it. I love the lines of the coupe but I'll most likely get one when I hit 80 (10 years to go).

Andy, swing by the dealer in Grand Rapids and take a used coupe for a drive. Just take something other than your jag there. I know when I was first looking I went to a dealer in my mustang vert and he tossed me the keys to an XKR. Didn't even come along for the ride, just asked me how I liked it when I got back.

My wife wins with top up on the way to a function. Then I get my way on the way home, down she goes. Bought the wife a nice silk head scarf for Christmas but I highly doubt that will change things.

Unfortunately the dealer doesn't have a xk or xkr
I came from a Porsche Cab and certainly enjoyed having the top down but actually enjoyed the car more in the snow just amazing levels of traction and control there will be another in my future. The looks of the Jag coupe got!

I found the submenu you speak of. Thanks for that. It explains a lot.

I had the fuel cap warning pop on and off over about a week, then it disappeared and never came back. Not uncommon from what I read here on the forum. Never figured out what caused it.

I also had an Adaptive Dynamics fault during a heavy rainstorm just after I purchased the car. I was so bummed! But it's what originally drove me to this forum and turns out that's pretty common, too (and self-resolved). Something about the car defaulting to a stiffer suspension when a sensor gets tripped in bad weather. I can't say that I have any wind noise. That seems like it's worth investigating further.

I still don't know for sure if the gas cap warning and brake pad wear warning were genuine or not. They replaced the pads, but the light came on once and went out typically once the wire is exposed its stay that way!
There is a recall for a software update to correct odd warning messages that can occur. So if you haven't had the car a dealer it might be worth a call or a visit.

I forgot one more thought--and this is a long shot so forgive me if I'm insulting your intelligence--but there is a fan in the seats that turns on when the seat warmers (or coolers) are on. Make sure it's not this fan noise you're hearing rather than wind noise.

Again, not likely, I understand, but I often overlook the simple things. Speaking if which, my seat was nice and toasty this morning!

I think you'll like the traction system on the Jag. My last one was insanely fun and impressive in the winter and we're just seeing some snow here now.

Hope this one's just as good but that seems to be something jaguar does right.

I installed 18" winter rims and tires as I was afraid to ruin 20" rims in the winter with summer only tires. Rim damage due to pot holes is not my idea of a good time.

I've been unable to find complete sets of winter tires everybody is sold out. The dealer as Soto zero's for $550 each shm 200 over the regular price. So hopefully get continental all seasons on today. I went looking for 19" rims (18's won't fit over the calipers) for winter use and couldn't find any.
My first impression of the car in the snow with summer tires was terrible had to completely turn the traction control off to do anything. That said when it was trying to spin on the highway it was easy to control, hoping better tires improve it.

Wind noise? my 07 coupé has no noticeable wind noise at all even at quite high speeds...perhaps your windows are not sealing properly?

I don't know of any summer tire that does well in snow and ice. Hope the All seasons work but that's one of the reasons I stayed away from the R models.

Not that I wouldn't mind the extra horsepower but brakes are expensive to replace and need big rims for those 14.8" front calipers. As a daily driver didn't want the added expenses. I have 20's for the summer.

I went with blizzaks on mine for the winter which wasn't cheap by any means. Cost $2500.00 for all four tires but that was installed with the 18" Black/Machine lip Coventry Whitley rims and new TPMS sensors.


Just took it for a long drive in the snow storm today to pick up some weather tech floor mats. The factory store was about 20 miles from my shop and I wanted to see how the car did.

It handled like the sure footed cat I thought it would. Had the rear slip about 4" to the right off one light, but snow over Ice and straightened itself right out. Other than that the little traction light would come on every once in a while but I couldn't feel it slip. If it weren't for the light I wouldn't have known at all. Lane changes through 3" push piles didn't even phase it, like driving on clear pavement.

Did a quick check on discount tire where I did mine.

They have Blizzak LM-32's

$250.00/ea. for 245/40-19 Front
$304.00/ea. for 275/35-19 Rear

Great tire so far and they carry the Coventry brand rims designed for Jaguars. Not sure if you have them locally but they do a great job and have always taken care of all my cars. I looked at the winter soto's but guy at discount tire said Blizzak is the way to go. All the guys there use them on their cars and my brother has a set on his mustang. Even got a free winter kit from Bridgestone for the purchase and it's a nice kit.

Thanks, I got the Continental DWS they seemed OK on the sort ride back from the tire shop but we had 12" of snow last night so I put her away and drove the Jeep.
I didn't check discount a few years back I had a problem with them that was probably just the local guy but didn't think of them about the only place I tried. I would have got a set of 19" wheels and tires for winter use.
I had the Sotos Zero's on my old Carrera 4 and it was rock solid on snow and ice, the original choice for the XKR was Blizzacks just couldn't find them. I found a lot of places that listed both rims and tires upto the point I actually tried to buy them !

Sov221 thanks for the feed back on the wind noise I'm sure this is not what Jaguar intended but until I can compare it against another its going to be problem to get the dealer to fix. Even then unless there's a recall I doubt the local dealer has the experiance or time to trouble shoot and fix.
I'll probably just turn the tunes up lol
