NEW TOY

Well, I figured I would make an update to my newly acquired F-Pace... After a couple of months of ownership and the wife putting approximately 1200 miles on it, bringing the total miles to just over 36k miles... She got into the vehicle one day a couple of weeks ago to a ticking/pinging sound as she described it, about a block from the house the vehicle starts to lunge and sputter, so thankfully she was smart enough to turn around and get the vehicle back to the house with really no acceleration. We call Dealer and they bring tow truck and pick up vehicle and get her into a loaner. Now mind you I am talking to a service advisor and getting all information 3rd and 4th hand, but after a series of test that Jaguar asked the tech to perform, they have decided on a complete engine replacement. I am still in shock and do not know what to think about the situation. It's great that it's all under warranty and will be repaired, but will it ever be the same, I guess time will tell. Also, when I go to trade-in or resell tit will be with a vehicle that has had an engine replacement. Crazy thing is, this all happened without any warnings popping up on dash or any codes thrown to the vehicle and no over-heating. All I have really been able to get from service advisor is that some pin on the heads or a pin that holds the heads broke off and caused havoc, of course this is all speculation because they have not yet completely torn down the engine... I guess I have the worst luck in the world, you just can't make the stuff up...

I've heard that Jaguar quality under the TATA brand has decreased noticeably. Probably back to the Pre-Ford era, so all that Ford quality increase has disappeared.
Of course again, that's what I've HEARD. I've not owned a newer model yet.
This does, however, make me ponder once again any possible new model GT for an XK replacement.................... Would it be any good? The X150 performs well beyond any expectation and is pretty much the best GT of the 20-teens.

@TexasTraveler I wouldn't sweat the new engine when it comes time for resale or trade in. It's a plus IMO. Maybe your dealer will do a trade on something new once the car is fixed?

Jaguar should strive to be the best "Jaguar"; not a Volvo competitor.

Thank You, apology accepted.... Now if you have anything to add to conversation, I would certainly love to hear it... I do find a little comfort in hearing that some of you don’t think I should just run from this vehicle after engine swap... I hope that everything goes well and the reassembling doesn’t create other issues like noises, ect...

One of my tenants is a Kia wrench. Kia had a spate of engine replacements in 2017/18 and that's basically all he did for dang near six months. He said he got real good at it. If it's not your dealer's first go-round, the new engine is a plus in my book.

It is not a terribly difficult job to perform and if this dealer and techs have good previous experience in performing this procedure, you are in good hands. Also the nice thing about having the main dealer do it is they have ALL the proper proprietary special tools from the factory to do the work. Main dealer has had my V6SC motor torn apart a few times in the Disco 4 with no issues.

Why would you run from the car, if you dump it now you will lose on all the associated costs (depreciation from when you bought, all the other dealer and taxes cost that you can't recoup). You will have a brand new engine installed by the "experts", personally I would not be concerned about that process. Of course it does suck that it happened, I feel for you there!
I had a Porsche that had a full engine replacement under warranty, when I traded it in wasn't even a part of the conversation. I negotiated against the prevailing values as I researched and got what I expected. To be honest I had completely forgotten it had even had that done.

While it is disheartening to have this happen, You will end up with an amazing SUV and probably enjoy it for years to come.
I had a 2017F-Type V6 and it was a perfect car. I think that this was before the TATA take over, but the models and parts are still the same on that engine as far as I know.

February 28th 1990 it was all done to Ford.
But yeah on Tata it was a WHILE ago. They've made good and bad models and good and bad examples.
