Beautiful car!

I was 22 when I bought my 00 XKR and while I didn't pay attention to them when I was in high school (class of 05), but they are just great cars to live with. The car I really wanted in high school was the DB9 or the Murcielago. Having experience working on and driving a 94 Diablo semi regularly, I enjoy the cars, but I don't like the big amount of attention that the V12 lambos bring. The GT cars tend to be great to live with, get the occasional thumbs up, but are able to fly under the radar easier. The reserved and restrained elegance of an Aston or Jaguar coupe is enjoyable to me and it appears you, OP. Enjoy the car!

Welcome, you beat me to the Jag by 20 years. I bought my first "fun" car at 33, a Porsche, did not get into the Jag line until 45. We have some young owners, when I see folks driving the XK or XKR here in Tampa it is almost always folks way older than me. Definitely a car that appeals to the "distinguished" crowd, people just don't know what they are missing!

I came from humble beginning and am happy to have the kinds of cars I dreamed about as a kid, vehicles that are well beyond what my parents ever had. I didn't have to contend with any of the negativity you experienced but glad you persevered.

Kyle:
What a great story! I too recently bought a 2008 XKR with 60K, in the same color as your beauty. I felt the same emotions as you described; unable to sleep the night before, and driving her gently with a huge smile on my face. I named her Grace Kelly because she's elegant and sexy!

Wow! What a great age and opportunity to own that beauty.
We share a bond, of sorts. When I was your age, I lusted for an E-TYPE roadster. When i found one and placed my deposit, my driving record (full of speeding tickets) reared it's ugly head. My Ins agent nixed my dream. However, he would 'right" a policy for an '67 E-Type 2+2......... Fast forward to 2014. I found the luv of my life again in the form of an '08 XK-R Portfolio Cvt. This time my dream came true, if only 41 years later LOL!

Welcome to a knowledgeable forum with a great cast of characters!

Default Way to go, Kyle.

I enjoyed your tale. Similarly, I have a 2008 XKR (Portfolio convertible) which I purchased last October in Toronto. My friend and I drove it to Arizona where it spent the winter, and I drove it to Vancouver this spring, a very enjoyable trip.
One piece of advice: Keep a fresh button battery for your key fob handy.
And one question please: What does “fuse 19” do? Thanks.

"What does fuse 19 do?"......This has been discussed numerous times. Pull it and find out LOL!
It has to do with defaulting open the exhaust system valves for a raspier sound......Access is through the rear seat center back..

Welcome Kyle.
age 16 Lambretta scooter
age 17 Ford Anglia 3 speed stick
age 18 same model (btw they had vacuum windscreen wipers don’t ask lol)
age 21 Tadaaah First Jag burgundy XJ6 With tan interior and those black and chrome sports wheels!
followed by a couple more coz the engines kept blowing up 🤔
Then there was the real beauty, Daimler Double 6, 2 door coupe in squadron blue.
A quick flirt with an Aston that had a lot wrong with it but was fun. After the insurance paid out for it being totaled I used the cash for a 2+2 E Type. New family needed a bigger car so back to XJ6 . There were a couple of big Rover V8s in there somewhere too!

Moved to US. after an awful Chrysler Le Baron convertible and Chevy Impala (the old gangsta shape) I found a black XJs V12 convertible. That was followed by a 99 XK8 convertible along with an 04 XJ8 that was beautiful and my current 01 XK8 convertible that I’ve had for 8yrs.

As you can tell I get bored quickly😇
Some of these Jags were older high mileage beaters that somehow kept goIng and the moral for me is that there is no other marque that really gives such incredible beauty and Value for money in the used car world. Enjoy!!!

Default Great story, Kyle

I am the owner of a 2009 XK Coupe, with 32,764 miles; in showroom condition inside and out! I just put new brakes and rotors on as well as a new battery and four new tires!
Mine is also Pearl Gray with cream/gray interior! No accidents, scrapes or scratches; impeccable interior!
I put in the latest GPS disc as my area is still growing daily. It still has a new Jaguar smell, which makes me smile every time I get into it. I’m located in Palm Beach County, Florida.

my first car was a 1958 Alfa Veloce Spider; brand new for $3100!
I’ve been a car guy since age 15; had an SCCA license, raced at Bridgehampton, Lime Rock and Thompson’s.
Life is great at 81!

Hey YUS, you raced all of the good 'ole tracks. Bridgehampton was my choice back in the day. Sad, the last I heard it's a development, of sorts. Thanks for dredging up the memories.

Checking tire temps.....

Great story! I felt the same (at a very different age) when I first saw the XK. Callum's design is a work of genius, and the best looking GT in the market. Pleasure to read a description of the same feeling I had for it.

Beautiful car. Great story. As someone said earlier, get a battery maintainer. Now. It will make your Jaguar ownership so much more satisfying.

Y’all are responding to a chap who made ONE post 2 years ago and then disappeared.

One thing he said was:

One hopes nothing untoward happened during his trip that is/was the cause of his absence…
