Default OBD 2 Reader?

Hi All,

This is my first XKRO's 2010 generation and up series. I've only had my car for a few months but I've been reading various posts I'm a little concerned about not having a temperature gauge, not that any of them are that good, and no oil dipstick with this 5.0 engine in particular. My older XK8 in my newer F-type at least had some gauges even if they were not amazing.

So my question is, should I get a little OBD 2 Bluetooth device? My main concerns are of course coolant/engine temperature and oil level/pressure. Also the electrical charging etc, but I did purchase a C-tek battery tender and it is awesome. Of course having the code read outs and all that stuff is nice as well. I'm seeing some inexpensive units on Amazon and I do have an android phone.

Here are a few of them. the first one in the reviews has an XKR user happy with it. I believe that they all work with the Torque App.

Amazon Amazon

Amazon Amazon

Amazon Amazon

Thanks as always,

Read the the thread OBD2 display in ashtray location.
Then you will probably become a buyer as the ADU will probably answer all your questions.

Well missed the boat on the ODB ashtray thread and purchased a VeePeak Bluetooth ODBII scanner on Amazon.
Connects fine to iPhone running Car Scanner app. Simple.

Maybe ashtray mod will be added at a later date.

Bob is doing a second round of ADUs on the 'Ashtray' thread if you are interested.

I used to use an old phone to connect to an OBDII reader to show my coolant temperature etc, but it is a clumsy solution and doesn't have the beautiful aesthetics and functionality of Bob's ADU, IMO of course. The ADU has that integrated look - almost OEM and is superbly executed by @Cabrio Bob .

Crazy if you don't sign up for the ADU

Wow, that looks amazing. I started reading the thread before coffee. My head started hurting..ha. It's gone through a few rounds and I am definitely interested. This definitely looks like a project that will take some time, but ultimately be worth it. Is there a current parts list and sourcing for the US? I am in Los Angeles. Also, I use the 12 volts currently for my Passport radar detector. Will there still be power at the port?

Thanks!

I agree with these guy. Bob's handy unit is a great thing and is about what Jag should have done.
I'd buy one of these also but I already have a different, albeit more involved, setup.
Kudos to Bob!

You can build one yourself, or order the assembled electronics from me, see for both my signature links.

Bob supplies a complete kit for the electronics and full advice for all the other bits you will need, including all the 3D print files, list of 2D print shops on the net etc etc. No knowledge or skill is needed to make a finished ADU. Check out the later pages of the thread - the earlier pages are when the idea was more conceptual. Your order the electronics direct from Bob and the 'case' unit from the internet. Once you have them, assembly and installation takes less than 10 minutes. Check out the assembly video towards the end of the thread.
