OBD II Hardware/Software

OBD II Hardware/Software
I know there is another page section for this but I want this to be specific for 5.0L XK/XKR/XKR-S models.
I pretty well versed in ECMs but really need to know what is the best mobile hardware/software device to read the data. I want something that can read all the codes, clear trouble codes, and supply some type of real time data such as coolant temps, boost, and pretty much any other sensor reading such as suspension height(unless thats ted to ADS only and cannot be read). I'd like to read the data on either a laptop or even an tablet. If it can save the real time data in a telemetry fashion even better, as I don't think its too safe to be staring at a laptop while driving.
I appreciate any ideas as looking through other threads and websites I can't find anything that clearly targets our cars. I would really appreciate some real world advice as some of these devices and software don't come cheap.
Thanks in advance!

Have to agree with that.
I have AutoEnginuity with the Jaguar Expansion Pack but it only reads the first 5 AlphaNumerics of the 7 digit DTC's on the XK.
Whilst this is adequate, digits 6 and 7 give additional information only read by the Jaguar approved diagnostic system.
I have a Mongoose clone on order!

Here's the genuine JLR diagnostics tool from Drew Technologies:
Drew Technologies : Introduction
It runs on 32-Bit Windows XP Pro
Elsewhere on the Drew Technologies website they warn "Because of a recent and unexpected software change from Jaguar, independent repair shops in North America are now restricted to engine and transmission reprogramming only unless they buy a whole PC package from the JLR dealer equipment program." I haven't looked into the cost of the Jaguar PC package yet but you can be certain it'll be expensive!
As I said in my earlier post, I've ordered a cheap Mongoose clone to assess the capabilities before going for the genuine tool.

no worries, it'll operate the same
don't try to update the firmware - you have been warned
fully operational on win7 32bit
as long as your model is covered there is no reason to go to higher versions, so once you get it operational, you are good to go forever

They are mostly all the same, just different sellers or sites. Some sellers have multiple sites.

You mean you're not falling for the "it must be the genuine article" mantra?

Rumour has it the bundled version 1.34 has a virus so I've got a clean 1.30 available.

The last contact I had from the vendor (CarSets UK One-stop eShop - Cheap OBD Diagnostic, Locksmith, Car Parts) was January 11th when their tracking reference showed it had cleared Singapore customs and was en route to the UK by air mail.
I was beginning to get concerned last week when the tracking reference showed no further updates and more so when I couldn't get any reply to eMail and the vendor's OnLine help was permanently off line!
When it still hadn't arrived on Monday, I opened a case in PayPal Resolution Centre to which the vendor had made no response in 48 hours.
Fortunately it arrived in the post about an hour ago. Although sold as MANGOOSE, it is labelled MONGOOSE and even has a Drew Technologies Serial Number on the back. I expect every one they sell has the same Serial Number!
I'll have a look at the bundled software tonight but won't have an opportunity to try it out before the weekend.
I've put an XP Pro Virtual machine on my clean build XP Pro laptop so I'm tempted to try the bundled v1.34 software first. The VM is easily flattened and re-installed if there's problems with v1.34 in which case I'd go with the v1.30 that I also have available.

I bought the clone Mongoose from OBDII ($55 Can) - they sent software versions 131, 142, 143. I loaded the 143 software on an Xbox 64 bit XP sp3 - worked first time. The only issue I had with the 143 is that the software is only good for 24 hours (without logging into Topix) - the suggested "deep freeze" program does nothing to prevent the 24 hour only usage. Unless I'm doing something wrong.
What I've done is wind the clock back to the last logout time. I then created clones that will hopefully obviate the need to reload the software.
I read that the 131 version does not need a log in to Topix and has full functionality (the OBDII people sent passwords etc) so I loaded that up on the 64 bit XP machine.
Program started OK, it recognised the clone Mongoose was attached but the program did not read my 2009 XKR, which was disappointing - it just went loopy.
I have a 32 bit XP sp3 - I created a VHD from it and intend to load up v131 on that - hopefully that will work.
