Today I received money from an USA resident, and Paypal accounted a fee of €6.39 from me.
If this happens to all USA people on the list, I will not break even.
Maybe when you send me money instead of me requesting, this fee does not exist. (be sure to select euro's as currency)
Let's try that with the next shipment.

Due to that, from post #166 I have to add:
- electronics €18.00
- 3D print €32.00
- ELM327 adapter €26.00 (not for Sam)
- USB car charger and USB cable €6.50
- shipping costs
- paypal fee €6.39 (USA and possibly Canada)

Of some people I didn't receive yet:
- name + shipping address.
- paypal email address
- type of shipment (I prefer at least with tracking, check post #111)
- type of engine you have (if 5.0, would you like the (beta) extended readout programmed? )

For US and Canada destinations I need additional data (please specify):
- type of article being shipped (gift, documents, trade sample, trade goods, or return goods) < edited
- goods description ("jaguar ashtray" or "vehicle ashtray" or "car parts" or .....)
- value of the goods (probably needed for import tax, you decide yourself)

If you request the 5.0 model software installed, please specify the units:
- BAR or PSI
- Liter or Gallon
- Centimeters or Inch

Bob - they need to use PayPal 'Friends & Family' / 'PayPal Gift'. If they use the regular 'commercial' PayPal, then PP applies the charge. For F&F there is no charge. That is why you didn't get the charge when I sent the funds.

For anyone not familiar with this, when you go to 'Send Money', there is an option to use PP Gift. Select that option and PP waives its fees.

Yup, that’s the way to do it. Good thing you didn’t ask for everyone to pay at the same time.
What you lose as the buyer/sender, when you send by F&F, is the ability to file a claim with PP if you didn’t get your goods, as the fee charged to the business/receiver is ‘insurance’ that PP uses to reimburse the sender if PP can’t recover the funds from the receiver.
So only use F&F with a trusted source (a lesson learned the hard way), but I think we can trust Cabrio Bob, right? He’s already shipping the goods.

barnsie, did you get a PP invoice from Bob? I wasn’t sure if you get the F&F option if you’re responding to an invoice?

Hi - yes, I got a request for payment from Bob (not an 'invoice' as such) and I still had the option to use PP F&F.

You are right that when using F&F you lose your rights to file a claim and lose all dispute resolution support, so never use it unless you know and trust the payee. In this case, we know we can all trust Bob so there is no problem.

TBH, I am of the view that Bob is being incredibly generous in providing these units at cost and, personally, I feel he is more than entitled to make a profit on them. After all, 'at cost' does NOT include any charge for Bob's time. If that were factored in, the units would cost double, or even more. So it might just be a neat solution to the PP fee issue if Bob just increases the price a little to cover it. I know the Dutch and know they have a very well developed sense of 'fair play' so Bob may not want to do this simply because he has already dispatched two units and may not want some recipients to have different 'terms'. Either way, it's Bob's decision in the end, but I am sure I speak for all of us when I say we would not want him to be out of pocket on this.

I think paypal between USA <> EU there's always a fee involved, no matter what.
If this fee is on my account, I'm going to lose on it, which wasn't my plan.

p.s. when the package arrives, unpack it carefully. I hope the paint will be dry enough not to stick to the packaging plastic.
p.s.2 : the USB fit will be tight, and probably will be best placed 30° pointing towards the left front.
you can;t turn the usb charger any further than that due to a ridge inside the cig lighter.

The below form I have to fill in for customs declaration.
at "What are you going to send?" I have to make a choice ("other" is not one of them as earlier stated)
at "Value €" the value can't be 0 or empty.

If all 5.0 model owners specify PSI, Gallon and Inches, I'm able to construct an universal firmware update "app" ...
makes life easier for me but also for you.

In this PDF there's a table of what each model is able to display (5.0 is Beta till confirmed by MarkyUK)

Default Universal 5.0 Litre Setting

If making the 5.0 Litre setting ‘universal/PSI Gallons/inches is easier for you please do so.

It is fine by me and your efforts are much appreciated.

Regards, Tolly

Wow, they really don’t give you much choice.
Not sure how it’s interpreted locally, but some places ‘trade sample’ or ‘trade goods’ are items that are sent out for exhibitions and expected to come back (‘return goods’).
Maybe the safe choice is ‘Gift’.
I’m sure we’ll all thank you!

Today, 4 devices are sent out, to JackJohn, RedRider48, Marc Voorhees and Canadacat.
You probably have received an email with the track & trace info. If not I can send it to you.

v8moise didn't respond yet, but looking at his location, he might have problems with the California fires.

There are 9 left to send, I split those up into 2 "shifts", the first coming Monday, the 2nd somewhere next week.

So, I paid a fee on my side to send with F&F (probably to convert to Euros). If you have a fee charged on you side as well Bob, I'd say PP is double-dipping on this. Hope not. Please keep any overage, you deserve it!

Bob - I think you have already answered this but I can't find it...

When cycling through the display options, is there a way to quickly return to the 'default' position - eg by holding the display change button for x seconds or something? I am thinking that mostly I will be wanting coolant temperature and volts and it would be neat if to get back to coolant temp from volts all I had to do was hold down the button, instead of cycling through all the other options. No worries though if this isn't built in - I just vaguely remember reading something about this (or I could just be going gaga of course )

It does exactly that.
The device starts up in coolant T mode,
one button press shows voltage,
other button presses will cycle further,
a long press (>0.5 sec) returns to coolant T. (or programmed to somebody's preference)

Well email from Hermes couriers says mine should be here between 12-2, it's a nice day so am detailing cars waiting for it.

Barnsie, your Hermes email states between 5-7pm, so barring any catastrophes you'll be coming 2nd by some margin THERE CAN ONLY BE ONE!! Weird as thought most freight for the UK comes into East Mids airport??

Bob, quick question is the current 15amp fuse woman enough to cope, or do you recommend another size?
