I was tracking your shipment yesterday and saw it was delivered.
Be sure to update the device before installing, see 2 posts back. I'll pull it out and do the update later, if needed after your reply. Very happy with this though. The one metric I like to keep my eye on above all else is coolant temperature and this unit solves that perfectly for me. Voltage is the other one which I find very useful - for me, all the others are a bonus. *** Saw this now in your post. My unit is not throwing any errors at all, or at least not in the 1 minute I had it running earlier. |

I don't think so as have cycled through them all, so will assume this pic is an earlier prototype. Do you don't want yours now due to this? :D
It is a lovely piece of kit as Barnsie will soon attest to. |

No worries. I'm sure there will be some updates to the software and hardware to come. My suggestions are:
- If 2 gauges can not be shown on the current display have an option to alternate with 5 second intervals between 2 selected gauges. This should not be too difficult to implement with a bit of added code. |

https://cimg0.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.jag...64043483ae.jpg Amazing!! Looks totally OEM! I love it! Is it just me or is your display background slightly red? MarkyUK's looks more black background to the display. Hoping it is just a trick of the light Either way is still looks great, well done to Bob |
If you look at it from our (RHD) drivers position it looks black. But when you look at it from the passenger seat or indeed take a pic of it, it has the red tinge.
Perhaps sommat to do with the screen or a coating?? https://cimg1.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.jag...506d3d10af.jpg One just taken at 10.30am dead straight on from the passenger side |
The screen is of the "transflective" type, meaning still visible in bright sunlight. That's probably causing the colour shift.
Barnsie, you probably could turn your USB charger 45° anti-clockwise and plug the USB into to back side one, that way the charger can sit deeper and there is less stress on the USB cable. |

Hey Bob.... I already installed it before I saw this. Mine seems to be working OK without the update. What problem does the update attempt to fix? ***It maybe something which only affects the 5.0 models and not our 4.2s?

My unit is not throwing any errors at all, or at least not in the 1 minute I had it running earlier. removed the differential temperature option for the 5.0 models, and has upgraded error "reporting" (on-screen) when an error occurs. My 4.2 also has no problems with the "old" code. |

This should not be too difficult to implement with a bit of added code. - Include a speaker to sound when a set temperature or metric is reached to alert the operator. This would require additional hardware and added code. - Use a color display to turn red when a set temperature or metric is reached to alert the operator. This would be a display upgrade with added code. Bob, has shipped a unit to me. I should have it in 5-7 days. I'm a retired software engineer and would be happy to add the code myself. I look forward to more iterations of this. Colour change when reaching a limit is easy, switching screens with an interval is also possible, a beep is also possible with a speaker (I have some laying around but didn't play with it yet) The ESP32 is also capable of using WiFi, so it could even send you an email when certain conditions are met, or update the device wireless using WiFi. |
Gosh Bob you need to take a rest before considering upgrades!!! :)
All in the community (especially those 10/15 lucky enough to get one) are eternally grateful. Next time I'm in NL the meal/drink is on me :D |

Totally agree it looks like it was meant to always be there.

I got quite enthusiastic over the above idea until those thoughts occurred to me. ICBW of course. |
Just been out for my first drive since installing the unit. Fabulous! You guys still waiting will not be disappointed. The display is clear and easy to read at a glance, regardless of whether it is in shade, the dark, or bright sunlight. Also very easy to use the button to cycle through the options. Mrs Barnsie was keen to see it and have a play with it and she was also amazed at the functionality and the OEM-look. This is high praise, believe me. :)
I think it ought to have a slick name. A boring suggestion is something like Additional Display Unit, or ADU for short. I think it needs something more interesting than that. Bobometer maybe ;) Or Bobomatic. Any suggestions? |

Bob-a-Job maybe? (But Americans won't get this) :D
Regardless of the chosen it's a Fooking amazing bit of kit. |
Please ignore my P.M I did not read all the posts.
If there is a second round in the next few weeks could you please add me to the list. Its great when someone adds even more pleasure to driving our Jaguar cars. Many thanks, ArtyH |
I am off out in a moment for a drive which will be a two-hour round trip. I am really looking forward to showing my buddy (who has a 2008 XK Coupe, which replaced his beautiful XK8 'Vert, red with cream leather) my new Auxiliary Display Unit (ADU).
I imagine that when he sees the ADU he will turn a good shade of green - he has always bemoaned the loss of 'proper' instruments like those he had in the XK8 - the coolant temperature and volts always being cited as the greatest loss. :icon_banana: |
