Those are big issues.
I had similar problems with my 2003 thunderbird, in the end the PCM was the problem, has had water in it.
Replaced the PCM, coded it according VIN and was good to go.

There was a question about when you order the 3D print,
Either print technique SLS nylon or HP MJF nylon will do,
HP MJF is slightly sensitive to the print orientation, this is best printed as you download it from my website, Z-axis up.
It will then be printed upside down, and the first printed surface will have the best looking finish.
SLS is not sensitive to print orientation, but has a more open structure (it is "sintered").
MJF is slightly more economical.
Some print companies offer polishing and dyeing or painting after printing.
Other print techniques are not recommended.
When ordering you can use the below pictures for sizing.

Hi Guys, I'd appreciate a bit of Assistance.
I'm ready to Order the Fabricated Housing for Bob's Display Monitor, but am a bit shaky regarding Procedure. It seems I'm not grasping an essential.
As I understand it... the instructions are:
1. I go to Bob's Site and download the Specs for the Procedure.- Z axis Up - (However, these seem to lack detail. They aren't nearly as detailed as Bob's illustrations posted today, )
2. I Select a Fab Vendor from supplied list & choose desired method (probably HP MJF via Craftcloud, polished & dyed, as outlined by arenaej, in post #426)
3. I upload and transfer Bob's Specs via Vendor/Fabricator's instructions .
( Is this designed to be easily done via a straight download of the Bob's file, that to me, seem to lack the detail of his illustrations. Is there added details present in the download that aren't apparent, or accessible by me ?) Should I simply submit Bob's instructional illustration direct , as an acceptable replacement ? ....or fill in the blanks by typing in the Specs, myself ?
SEEMS I'M MISSING SOMETHING or my computer(Acer - w. Windows 10 Home) isn't showing details that are present.....Confused.
Any thoughts / Advice.
.Thanks

I’m no expert... I went to the Craftcloud site, uploaded the zip file from Bob’s site, they provided a quote that offered the polished and dyed options. I paid via PayPal, received an email confirmation and it should arrive in a week or so. I’ll let you know what arrives.🤷‍♂️

Retrocket 10-06-2020 05:34 PM

arenaej, Sure does look right.. Thanks for responding,
As mentioned, I was influenced by your posted experience w.:Craftcloud. It rang the bells... ease of ordering, polished & dyed, good price, etc, You seemed v. satisfied. Glad to hear that their confirmation follow-up also meets with your expectations, I appreciate that you posted such results.
arenaej, the problem was never Bob's layout or directives; rather it's my own ineptitude in deciphering tech based instructions & procedures. Having little exposure to such tasks, I tend to doubt my execution.

When I opened the file, it seemed sparse in comparison to the illustration... almost none of the dimensions present.
Not knowing if, as viewed, it was sufficiently coded for the Fabricators needs. I figured that I was either missing a step in the process, or
maybe my laptop wasn't showing all the info that was present. I figured, better to ask for guidance, than plow on without conviction.
Would you mind confirming, by walking me through your ordering process.
Was ordering as simple as...
1. I go to Bob's Site and download the Specs for the Procedure.- Z axis Up.
2. I Select a Fab Vendor from supplied list.
3. I upload and transfer Bob's Spec Drawing via Vendor/Fabricator's instructions , and include MJF method & finishing options, desired.
4.-Pay, and await delivery.
Again , is the more detailed info present in the illustration, not needed ?
Thanks
Bill

arenaej 10-06-2020 06:36 PM

Retrorocket...Based on the results I’ve seen from the first group I chose to trust the process. I’ve never ordered anything 3D printed before, and since I’m retired and living a pressure free life didn’t overthink it. I downloaded the 3D Print STL File from Bob. Looked at the list of potential vendors, checked pricing from a couple of them and settled on Craftcloud. Once the zip file was uploaded-no mention of z axis up- the site asked what the file measurements are in...it’s millimeters. Then you have choices of material... I followed Bob’s recommendation. Options were offered...polished finish ...dyed black. Paid via PayPal and done. Since my last post on this I received another email from Craftcloud saying my order is in production. I’ll have this long before Bob closes out the phase 2 list so there’s time to fix it if something isn’t right. I’ll assume it’s good until I learn otherwise...

Retrocket 10-06-2020 06:51 PM

Good enough for me, arenaej. I'll trust the process.
Thank You for responding, and sharing your positive experience.
It's appreciated.

The Vgate Icar Pro will not connect with the obd doctor app. However it does connect with Torque Pro. I have been unable to locate any information on this problem either by contacting the address they supply in the package or on the web. Two questions; Any suggestions? Or will this setup work with torque pro. My phone is a Galaxy Note 20.

Normally the ZIP file downloaded from my site is to be unzipped, and then send the STL's to the company.
But if sending the ZIP works that's also fine.
Adding the note Z-up is optional, and they may ignore it since they may combine a 3D print with others and choose the orientation which suits them the best.

Yes the 4.2 engines have less data to read out.
It seems like you should update the device to the latest firmware, this will fix numerous issues, such as a slow responding button.

Update procedure:
- check your Windows operating system (on this site)
- download, unzip and install the ESP32 drivers from my website (either click the X64 or X86 exe file based on your OS)
- connect device to computer (micro USB cable)
- download EZ firmware ZIP file from my website
- unzip the ZIP file
- go into the unzipped folder
- double click the "firmware.bat" file. (Windows might complain)
- follow the on screen directions.

Be sure not to run the "firmware.bat" file from within a WinRAR window.

Ralph
I might not fully understand your question.
My device has nothing to do with a phone, it connects directly to the Vgate iCar.
If you connect to the vGate with your phone, my device can't connect. only one device (or app) at a time can connect to it.

Retrocket 10-07-2020 12:16 AM

Understood, Bob...
It being a zip file explains a lot.... Thanks for clearing the fog.
Every excited user report... every photo of the device in action, makes me even more thankful that you opened it up for a 2nd run.
- Bill.

If that app could show which PID it is requesting, I can make it work on my device too.

EDIT: I just checked Bob's site and he doesn't have the earlier FW versions there - only the latest one. If anyone wants the earlier version mentioned below, either ask Bob or as me and I will post it for you. Note: 4.2 litre cars ONLY.

Nice video - thanks.

If you care to update to the next version of Bob's FW, you can have two readings displayed at the same time on the one screen. Very handy. The version you need for this is 21 20 1, which also adjusts the backlight so it doesn't flicker when passing under under streetlights. The version *after* this one flashes the coolant reading screen when a pre-set temperature is exceeded, but this version also makes the start-up screens less attractive (software limitation) and some of us have chosen to stick with 22 20 1 for that reason.

This is what the 'dual display' version looks like..

Really well done Bob. I appreciate your attention to detail in all its many forms. Looking forward to getting my 3D printed parts Monday 10/12 from Xeometry . Dongle and low profile cigarette power plug already in hand. Oh wait.... That doesn't sound to well when read back! LOL... Thanks again.

Bob, I have to hand it to you....
You have "idiot-proofed" every step of the process, for the tech-challenged. (believe me, I qualify for President Emeritus status, in this tired / old sub-set,) lol
From coming out with a video, with fabulously simple steps, when I voiced my assembly concerns... to promising a step-by-step written Instructional... to calming my jitters re: ordering the 3-D Fabricated Body/Top.
( Likewise, the V-gate & USB Sockets were a SNAP.. couldn't be easier; click on the supplied shopping options, and CLICK. IMO, very economical as well.)

Let me tell you... Ordering the 3-D fabricated Parts (used *CraftCloud) was Fast, Simple & **Economical - see below.
(did I say fast & simple.. ordering took about as long as typing this message.)

Note to any Procrastinators, who might be holding back because they're afraid of the process... use your own judgement, but I'd suggest that you Go for it !
I don't believe you'll regret it.
Bob, IMO, thought this through thoroughly, and anticipated every hurdle. He made it a simple, step-by-step, process.

This whole endeavor has been fantastic. A wonderful experience; with a huge payout in the end... Bob's fabulously Customized, OBD2 display.
Thank You, Bob.
Regards, Bill

* CraftCloud ... a thank you shout-out to arenaej, for his help & feedback. It's much appreciated.
**Economical - Ordered 2 units (for my 2 XK's) with Optional Polished / Black dyed finish.
Total : $77. 84 + $5. shipping (I was also able to include a request for "Z axis up" fabrication, if possible)

jtdii123 10-09-2020 02:55 PM

If you still want to be on the 2nd round list, post it here or send me a private message.

HI Bob, this is one long thread!
Please put me down for one (2010 XK 5.0, Centigrade, Gallons, MPH, PSI, Inches if that's all possible)
Just let me know how and when to pay and I'll send it off to you ...

Both are added.
Those units are no problem

Units fixed * :
- Gallons
- PSI ***
- Inch

Units easily changeable ** :
- Celsius / Fahrenheit
- Kilometers / Miles

* changeable when you install the full Arduino IDE software
** changeable using the EZ-update utility.
*** currently reports unreliable data (XKR 5.0). Also I received no feedback yet from 5.0 NA (XK) users

See my website in my signature.
