Just received my '2020 Year in Review' Summary from the forum. Interesting to see that Bob's thread is singled out as one of the most popular! And to see the XK150 listed as one of the most popular forum sections too.

Great job, Bob - thanks for a bright spot in an otherwise pretty dreadful year.

My pleasure! The Forum has been a life saver for me so many times. First time Jag owner. I have used the DYI videos to do the timing chain and tensioners, water pump, complete front end rebuild, etc.. I could not and would not have even attempted this work without the forum. So anytime I can contribute I'm happy to and thank you to all our members.

I am amazed that such a neat solution to such an annoying problem has been so elegantly solved and shared - not just the know how but putting it together for everyone too! Bob its brilliant, thank you. Can't wait to get mine.
I'm quite sure if you assembled some units yourself Bob people would happily buy them for 300 Euros a piece if they're put off by having to get the stuff printed etc (like I was).

Bill Mack 12-17-2020 07:39 AM

The electronics I ordered from Bob are on their way. Definitely makes my holiday season!

I like it Bob. Looks like it is a standard feature.
I've got a more basic temperature indication on my Android phone using the Torque Pro app. Gives peace of mind knowing this.

My stuff has arrived!!! Thank you Bob!!!
Now i need my 3D print to arrive and im ready to go

DrMatt89 12-27-2020 03:49 AM

Hi Bob,
Bit late to the game as only just got my 2007 XKR. Had a distinct lack of coolant after the drive home and an overheat message so I would like to see if there are any more slots available for one of your modules. I can't seem to find the private message function on this forum, either I'm blind or my account isn't old enough! I have a 4.2l x150 and would like Celsius and miles please if there is a chance I can order. Absolutely no rush as its the holidays!

I'm going to try to print out the 3d parts my self, I will see how they go in HTPLA or PETG.

Thanks in advance.

Matt

Cabrio Bob 12-27-2020 04:03 AM

Hello Matt,

As this is your first post, private messaging is not yet enabled for you.
There are still 19 items left, of which 2 are ready for shipment.
I prototype printed once with PETG (Felix 3.1) and ABS (Ultimaker S5). Although it looked as expected, not quite good enough to post-finish and use in our cars.
(T)PLA might be problematic in summertime due to high temperatures in our vehicles thus deforming the print.

DrMatt89 12-27-2020 04:33 AM

That certainly was a quick reply!

Would I have to wait till messaging is available before placing an order? I'm happy to if needed.

I agree regular PLA would be totally unsuitable but I have used the heat treating on HTPLA (ProtoPasta) previously and seems like it should be sufficient in sunny England. If it doesn't work I can always do it in PETG or send off to get it in nylon.

Cabrio Bob 12-27-2020 04:56 AM

Private messaging is not yet enabled, but I can send you an email through the forum and you can reply to that.

DrMatt89 12-27-2020 05:06 AM

Sounds perfect, thanks.

Welcome to the forum, Matt. I am just a few months ahead of you as to XK ownership. I'm sure you'll find this forum as invaluable as I have. It's the best place to get advice and information from experienced owners and special members such as Bob.

Enjoy your XK - responsibly of course! ;)

DrMatt89 12-27-2020 05:26 PM

Cheers Bill,

I've been lurking here for while and have already learnt loads. I've only had my XKR for a few days and already really happy. A few issues to get rectified but only worrying one was a lack of coolant, hence the interest in this device!

Welcome! I've had my XKR for about 18 or 20 months now and it has behaved flawlessly. We took it on a 2,000 mile road trip to France in August and it was perfect. I also have learned a ton of stuff in this Forum and, of course, this thread has been the answer to our prayers for an elegant solution to displaying, in particular, water temperature and volts, two critical items on our cars. Bob's ADU (Auxiliary Display Unit) works brilliantly, looks amazing and brings terrific peace of mind.

ralphwg 12-27-2020 06:36 PM

I'd like to agree from personal experience - and I'm sure the unit is as great as everyone says - but I am still waiting for Bob's electronics to arrive. PostNL clearly has better service than whatever domestic carrier is bringing it to me. Guess I'm a victim of Covid + Christmas online shopping.

https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.jag...4d8ceea134.png

BTW, I always thought "ADU" stood for "Ashtray Display Unit" but your version is much more elegant!

Cabrio Bob 12-28-2020 09:58 AM

Shipping duration vary very much (to the US and canada)
I've seen 1 week delivery time but also over one month.

ADU Photo

Thanks Bob.
Easy assembling; no software setting changes required.

Another successful installation !

They all look pretty similar...

The Anker version listed here is what I got. It has a spring on the center pin that's just strong enough to push the unit up high enough to prevent closing the ashtray cover. Otherwise, it works well.

Of the other suggested options, are there any that are known to not get in the way of the ashtray cover?

I have this
one one

It does not interfere with the ashtray cover.

This one will fit, it's the same type as came with "round 1"
https://www.ebay.com/itm/362543559093
the black ones are sold out apparently.

wsn03 01-12-2021 05:49 AM

I appear to have been waiting in vain for my 3D print...i can find no email record of ordering it! Ffs...now ordered (again) but at least in black this time

fxdwg 01-12-2021 09:54 AM

As Bob posted above, this adapter:
Mini Dual USB Car Charger Cigarette Lighter Fast Adapter Charging Quick Charge | eBay
fits in the ashtray very nicely and lets the cover slide over it easily. :icon_eddie: At this moment unfortunately, they're only available in green.

Cabrio Bob 01-12-2021 10:11 AM

Round 3 shipment

The "round 3" shipment was carried out almost 1 month ago,
of which 2 are still not delivered. (Bill Mack and WVChris)
They both seem to be stuck at "Your item cleared United States Customs (ISC NEW YORK NY(USPS))"
This is the same location as the one of arenaej, who received his item after ~40 days.
With arenaej's shipment, I and himself called the shipping companies for investigation, but it's not clear if that action was the "trigger" or actually action was taken.
If after coming weekend there is still no movement of these 2 packages, I'll call again.

My local postmaster is a friend of mine. He told me that for every USPS employee that comes back from having COVID, 10 more go out. There is no way to get these items to move...waiting is the only option and they will get delivered...

Bill Mack 01-13-2021 08:21 AM

Bob,

I just called the Customer Service phone number for the US Postal Service, and spoke to an international shipment service advisor. She tracked the bar code you gave me for the package and told me that she could not see anything beyond receipt at US Customs on December 25. The package has not been released to the Postal Service, nor has it been sent back to you. She further said that inquiries of this sort have to come from the shipper and that she could not provide any help to the recipient. I would appreciate your looking into this at your earliest convenience.

Thanks.

Hmmm... Did you do something especially naughty just before Christmas? Santa may have delivered it someone on the ‘nice’ list. :icon_santawaving:

WVChris his package has the exact same status as yours, one day earlier.
If I call now, they will probably tell me "please wait another 5 days".

Bill Mack 01-13-2021 10:19 AM

No problem. Call when you think it's right to do so.

WVChris 01-13-2021 01:36 PM

Confirming that I have the same status and perhaps like Bill, look forlornly at the empty mailbox every day. But I think the 2nd round folks had a pretty long wait, and that wasn't right on top of Christmas. I'm just going to distract myself with other things for now. When it arrives, I'll report in.

Cabrio Bob 01-18-2021 09:33 AM

The package of Bill Mack moved to a new status today (Arrived at USPS facility GRAND RAPIDS MI DISTRIBUTION CENTER ANNEX on January 18, 2021 at 2:33 am),
WVChris his package still has the same status as the 24th of December. Probably this one will move shortly also.

Yay! Good news Bill.... IDK about you, but I have little patience waiting for stuff once I have ordered it. I am currently in my 4th week of waiting for a shipment (audio gear) from China. Yet I ordered something else on a Saturday and it was in my hands the following Wednesday, Go figure. And the CNY starts soon, and then everything stops dead in its tracks for about 4 weeks. You will just love Bob's ADU when it finally arrives (same for WVChris).

Bob, thanks for the good news! And Barnsie, thanks for the good wishes.

Interestingly, I just did a track on PostNL (probably for the 50th time...) and it does not show that move - see below. But I'll take the better news no matter where it comes from! :icon_clapclap:I hope WVChris is not far behind.

https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.jag...d605e08d07.png

WVChris 01-18-2021 12:48 PM

This just in for mine.

Your item arrived at our USPS facility in CHAMPAIGN IL DISTRIBUTION CENTER on January 18, 2021 at 12:28 pm. The item is currently in transit to the destination.

Yea!

ralphwg 01-18-2021 07:52 PM

Interesting, it ravels from Europe to Champaign in the middle of downstate IL in the Midwest to back track to West Virginia. Go figure.

wsn03 01-19-2021 02:02 AM

My 3D print has now arrived! Dumb question time, where is the place to get instructions on how to put this lot together and make it work? The website or one of the posts in this enormous thread?

Cabrio Bob 01-19-2021 02:47 AM

Well if the USPS tracking is to be believed, my ADU is road tripping from NYC to Champaign, IL to Irving and Dallas, TX, now back to Champaign.
