Hello
Finally my son put this together following the you tube video. it recognised the car, the 4.2 engine, but it kept trying to talk to the OBDC i think it said and ended up not being able to connect. What have we done wrong? it didn't recognize the car, it is only showing the device was coded for a 4.2 X150 model. Every device that left my home is tested before shipping. I'm wondering which Vgate ELM327 device you purchased. To test if you have the correct one: install Bluetooth Scanner on one of your android devices, install the Vgate ELM327 device in your car and start your car, enable bluetooth on your android device and start the bluetooth scanner app, press "start". After a while a list of bluetooth devices shows up, one of them should be named "Android-Vlink" which is the Vgate ELM327 device. An example is shown in the attachment. If it doesn't show up, you don't have the correct ELM327 device or it is broken. If it shows up with a different name, the "ADU" can't connect to it. One other possibility is that it's been shipped out without the correct firmware, what you could do is download the "ESP32 EZ-reset tool" from my website, install it onto the ADU and choose option 2. After that, re-install the latest version of the firmware onto the device (EZ-Updater 4.2). and test in the car if it connects. use this manual, it explains how to upload firmware. https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.jag...a4669a6c2f.png |

My ADU continues to reset itself, especially when I look at it, lol. there was some discussion of changing the refresh rate. Anyone else have this problem and it there an update to the software to help with this?

it decreases the refresh rate from 0.5 to 0.7 seconds which might solve your problem. it's for 5.0 models only. https://drive.google.com/file/d/1lvO...ew?usp=sharing if it works for you let us know and I'll make this the default configuration. |

Thanks Bob for the update. I installed the update, but the version number did not change to ...8. I hope it was installed corrected. Did you change the version number on the display to reflect the installed software? I went for a short drive down the street about 2kms. On the way back I looked at the device and it was reinitializing. However, on startup it initialized and stayed on. It used to always reinitialize 2-3 times as I backed out of the garage and started to drive. Thanks. |
I forgot to change that version number to eight on display but it is updated.
My device actually does the same thing when it is below ~7°C and gets better when the interior warms up. this might be different from device to device. Tonight I'll make a version with 1 second delay. if that doesn't solve your problem you may need to exchange the (on Aliexpress these are cheaper) The problem could also be Vgate Elm327 related. |
Version 2.2.0.9 with 1 second refresh rate, download:
https://drive.google.com/file/d/1Yz1...ew?usp=sharing 5.0 models only. 2.2.0.9 should also show on display. Good luck. |

We have connection to the OBDII, not to V-Link. 2. He tried downloading the software update, but it kept saying it is not recognising the device We must have the wrong device? It looks nothing like what we ordered so Im even more confised. Accordong to Amazon I ordered Vgate iCar Pro BLE 4.0 OBD. What is the correct device to order? I've looked up ELM327 but I get different shaped things - do you have a link for the correct item please? picture below shows the parts I have https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.jag...01b2d77b92.jpg https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.jag...cde7f751fa.jpg https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.jag...e4130827c2.jpg |

I've looked up ELM327 but I get different shaped things - do you have a link for the correct item please? All devices that left my house were tested before shipping so it should work as advertised. The ESP32 in your pictures is the correct one. Some questions: - how did you connect the device to the computer? you should not use the supplied USB plug, but a micro-USB cable directly connected to the ESP32. - Not always necessary, but did you install the ESP32 Windows drivers? (windows 10 or windows 7/8) - When connected to the computer, what does "Device manager" show under "Ports (COM & LPT)"? it should be like in the attached picture. - try to use a different USB cable, sometimes these are broken or without data leads. - What name does your android device show for the ELM327 (Vgate iCar Pro)? should be the same as my previous showed picture (Android-Vlink). If it's a different name, I can adapt the firmware for this new name. - The ELM327 "Vgate iCar Pro BLE 4.0 OBD" you purchased should be OK (unless it is faulty). Link to a correct Vgate dongle: - Are you able to connect to the Vgate iCar Pro with the android app "Torque (PRO)"? If not, the Vgate iCar Pro might be defective. Of course, the Vgate iCar Pro should be connected to your car's OBD port. https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.jag...08c6e70fc8.png |

"Attempting to connect to OBD2" means "Attempting to connect to the Vgate device" |

You clicked the right file, but you'll have to unzip the downloaded file first. (you probably figured that out already)
install it without the device attached to the computer and re-start the computer afterwards. When the device receives power it always is going to search for the Vgate device. when its not in sight it obviously can't find it. "Attempting to connect to OBD2" means "Attempting to connect to the Vgate device" |
Bob...im trying to win dumb ass of the year. I just found this on my parts shelf. I presume this has to be plugged in to the socket where i plug in my diagnostics?
Yeah I know what you're thinking... Mechanically im right up there, hi-tech however... https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.jag...44b67d2f12.jpg |
That's correct, plug that in and you should see the ADU work, assuming the software for the ADU is ok. That device is what the ADU uses to talk to the ecm of the car. It's a really neat setup. Once you get it working, you'll appreciate all the work Bob has put into these even more.

if you haven't plugged that in before, no wonder it wouldn't connect ....

And all this time I was wondering how the hell this device got its information from a cigarette socket :icon_bricks: |
