Safely stored my XKR convertible in the garage for winter and start it and take it in/out of the garage weekly. The car is no longer registered or insured. (Yes it is still for sale). Anyhow, I am looking around for storage coverageand coverage for when I put back on the road. Started looking around for estimates at Grundy, Haggerty, American Collectors Ins, etc. just wondering if anyone has any insight, experinces or recommendations. I have a family of 4 all that have daily driver vehicles insured with a local insurance company. The Jag was insured with them, but is no longer. Regular coverage is very expensive for occasional use. Initional collector car quotes appear to be very low premiums. Any info is much apprecited.

Reason: Edit typo in thread title
I recently looked into this. Hagerty wanted $6000 a year just for the XKR, compared to the $1200 I am paying now with the rest of my cars under one policy.
I pay $900/year for my two cars. Geico and Progressive are similar rates. I've had a couple of glass claims over the years. Since I store mine in the winter, I also looked into it but I can't find anything for less. That's comp and collision with the bulk of the bill on comp.
For the time that your car is in storage, you might want to consider just getting comprehensive coverage, no collision.
When my mother stopped driving, yet still had a car sitting in the driveway, I called her agent and dropped everything except the comprehensive, just in case the big oak tree it was parked under dropped a branch on it, or a hailstorm. Her premium dropped to $68 per 6 month interval, saving ~$320 per year.
When we had to spend winters in Florida to care for the wife's parents we did the same. The savings was well worth it on the two idle vehicles in the garage at home. We'd make a phone call to our agent to restore full coverage just prior to returning home.

The collision on the Jag is $38 for the entire 4 months. (and you know they're gonna total it if the accident is significant anyway). I looked into it a couple years ago and the agent said you run the risk of the premium going up when you add it back on. She didn't know why, just happens sometimes she said.
2014 X Dynamic R = £310 15yrs protected no claims
2007 Audi A6 quattro = £290 12yrs protected no claims
2017 Toyota C-HR Hybrid = £250 = 3yrs protected no claims
2016 Peugeot 2008 GT line = £312 no co claims
All independent stand lone policies and am paying less than $1200 of your USD for 4 x cars, plus had a car written off last year!
Consider moving to the UK is you think your insurance is too high!
PS: None of the above are garaged and jointly insured to cover 45k miles per annum.
I use American Modern Home Insurance Co. - 2009 XK Convertible 56k miles $22,000 agreed value, 6k miles per year costs me $389.00/yr.
Have to tried to beef up your agreed value? These companies are fairly easy going for the agreed value and just charge a little more, but still might give it to you. They are more concerned about risk than your actual value. I'd try for 30-35grand. What are you limits for liability? 250/500/100 with uninsured and underinsured with the same limits? Have you had any claims with them? It's just that the reviews for American Modern are so negative. I had a friend who used them with no problems getting his premium back after cancellation but he never had a claim.

Thanks for that...I paid less than $22k so thought I was doing ok.
Grundy came in pretty low ($248/yr) online. I called to get more information and the rep was a little short with me. Like why are you calling attitude. Hagerty did not have my year (2008) defined. I am getting other quotes (American Collectors, etc). This is mainly just for coverage while in my garage during winter (and occasional spin around the neighborhood to keep things moving). I plan to drive on weekends starting in March and the main focus if to get it registered (proof of ins required in MA) so it can be driven and for test drives as it is for sale.
Currently, My Portfolio is costing approx. $600/6 months for collision, liability and stated value with Allstate. Until this conversation was initiated, I didn't think to check with Hagerty, which has all of my classic vehicles insured. I checked with Hagerty and their rate is approximately half, give or take $25-35. My XK is a seasonal driver, together with my other classics. I drive approx. 2k to 5K per year.
Thanks for bring this topic to a discussion.

Reason: to add "stated value" comment.

For me, Hagerty was the highest. They were about $100 less than what I'm paying now with Progressive.. The only positive might have been the agreed upon value which is probably higher than what my company will give if totaled. For now I'm sitting still and probably paying through the nose for driving less than 1,000 miles a year. Insurance in my County is one of the highest in the nation.

That is so weird. I still can't figure out how Hagerty came up with $6,000 per year to insure a vehicle that would be non-driven and trailered for show use only as compared to Progressive for $1,200 as a daily driver. I mean if the car was somehow damaged, it would be cheaper to self insure at their rates!!
Reading through this tread, caused me to visit my own insurance situation, since my daily driver coverage with Allstate is coming up for renewal in March, along with the XK-R. My insurance for full coverage $500 deductible is approximately $1600/year, the bulk, of which, is for the Jag. After reading through this thread, I contacted Hagerty, with whom I've been with for over 30 years and have my classic cars and vintage scooters covered by them. They will cover my Jag for "$375/year" with full coverage to include $25K agreed value, collision ("0") deductible, comprehensive, uninsured motorist, state compliant Liability etc. This is for 9 months of coverage and 6k mileage per year.
Hagerty personal experience......
One of my fellow club members experienced and engine fire (Mustang GT350 Tribute) a couple months before a National Ford Car Show. Hagerty, issued him checks for receipts until the restoration was complete. He attended the show and received a 1st in the modified division. BTW, I received a 2nd. Obviously, we were happy for him and his good experience with Hagerty.

So, you're stating you were quoted $6k/yr? Do you have any other cars with Hagerty? That is so bizarre!
This is a snap of my quote. Now, I will have to file pics of the car too. This. I've done with my other vehicles.
i have my wife's car plus my 4 cars on policy. All with Statefarm. 2 of the cars are low mileage discounts, the Jag XK being one of them. insurance is minimal but not $200/yr minimal as with Hagerty or those classic ins companies. often times they want to restrict your mileage and use. low miles, limited use like to/from show, etc.
SF discounts my vehicles that aren't driven much, doesn't restrict me to miles or use. gives me the freedom to use car when and how often I want. (although since Aug I've driven my XK just once, lol).

I don't know all of the particulars for your coverage, but I adjusted mine to an agreed value of $25K like yours and it dropped a lot but still more than double the cost of Progressive. I dropped liability to $10K, only PIP and collision @ $1k & comp @ $0 deductibles.
Congratulations! Your quote is only $2,314 Per Year Includes Paid-in-Full Discount
