Default ODB II gets error

Hi,
I drive an 07 XK with just over 50K miles. I've had my ODB II reader for a whole lot of years, and used it on car after car after car with it working fine. The engine light came on during a heavy rain and driving through some good size puddles on the highway at highway speeds. Parked in the garage, started it up the next morning and the light was gone. Drove all day no problem. Then today the engine light came back on. Got out the ODV II code reader. Plugged it in. It connects the power fine, when I go to read the codes, it says reading and shows a good link to the system. Then simply says error. There is nothing about that in the ODB II reader manual, nothing that I can find about ODB II connections in the Jag manual. Has anyone else had issues connecting and ODB II reader to their SK or SKR?
Thanks for any advice.!

On Board Diagnostic. To answer the OPs question, it would be helpful to know the make and model of his OBDII reader. Lots of typos in the OPs post. I have no problems connecting my ELM327 OBDII reader to my XKR and XJ and to my smartphone Torque app via Bluetooth. I suspect that the problem is with the OPs OBDII device, and not his car.

Default Code Reader

The reader is Innova 3100. I'd guess I've had it a dozen or so years, and never had an issue.

I would stop by a local auto parts place and see if their house scanner will read your car. It's a free service at autozone etc.

Yes, mine does that as well. I think if it goes 3 start cycles without faulting the CEL will go back out and just keep the code stored. I have lazy downstream o2 sensors.

What is the age and condition of the battery? A failing or weak battery can cause random DTCs and turn on the MIL.

Many of the electrical faults discussed across these forums are the result of the vehicle's battery needing to be replaced.

Battery is just over a year old. While the car isn't a daily driver, I probably drive it 3-4 times a week. Put it on the Battery Tender when I leave for over 2 weeks.

The age of the battery is meaningless.

With the ignition in the OFF position for ten minutes or longer, there should be a minimum of 12.5 volts across the battery terminals. If it is less, the battery may be the cause of the random DTCs/MIL.
