off topic Detroit auto show

I saw both the new Mercedes sports car as well as the Maserati Alfieri at the L.A. Auto show a couple of months ago.
Mercedes simply grafted a Porsche's *** onto an SL's front clip to come up with this car. From the rear it is indistinguishable from a 911.
The Maserati Alfieri was clearly the best automobile I saw at the show. The problem will be how much of the prototype makes it to production because it would be impossible to do such things as a one piece wrap around rear clip. But if it's close to the prototype, depending upon price (and the Maserati representative who was showing the car said it will be somewhere between $80-180,000), it will be very well received. I dare say it will hurt Aston Martin more than anyone else.

I don't think it'll hurt AM's sales that much. AM and Maserati are still far apart in fit, finish and final weight.

Interesting, I didn't see the Porsche in the Merc and I'm a ex 911 owner and still love them and will have another. It was very familiar or reminiscent of a couple european coupe's from the 60's.
Its always possible to blend panels, Old Jaguars use to lead the joints, the current XK C pillar is joined and sanded flat (fetteled a good midlands term) all a question of cost and time.
