Default Overhead light consol

I want to change the bulbs in the overhead light cluster but cant find a way to remove the cover without the fear of breaking something. Has anyone removed the cover off to change the interior light bulbs?

Easily done. Just pull the whole console down from each side, at the back. There are clips that are designed to release with enough pulling .

The plastic is getting brittle with age. Consider using a plastic trim tool and proceed as Guy advised.

Thanks for the reply, when you say back do you mean towards the windscreen or the bit nearer me?

It pulls straight down basically, use some pry tools to ease it down.

  1. Was always puzzled about those small grilles on either side. Thought they would've been a better location for the hands-off microphone(s) rather than adding that "wart" on the A pillar. Read somewhere that they might be for the Intrusion Sensors on Euro models. If ever I re-upholster my interior, I'll move the microphone up there and delete the wart.

I was told they were proximity sensors to help control the SRS. Intrusion Sensors also makes sense as they'd both do the same thing.

The intrusion detection modules are an optional fitment in some markets and are not available in
other markets. Two intrusion detection modules are fitted. One module is located on the front of the
floor console and monitors the front seat area, the second module is fitted at the rear of the floor
console and monitors the rear seat area. The modules are wired together in parallel with the forward
module being the master and the rearward module being the slave module.

Each intrusion detection module comprises two microwave sensors which allow the interior of the
vehicle to be monitored. The intrusion detection modules also monitor the vehicle interior on soft
models when the soft top is down.

Looks they just plugged 'em up - must have had something in mind:

top models when the soft top is down.
