Own an XK/XKR? Considering buying one?

I am quite sure that many here on the Jaguar Forum have not seen or understand how the XK/XKR automobiles are built. At Jaguar the XK/XKR is built over a 2 week period. Robotic constuction is 60% of the build, while the remaining 40% is hand built.

So, if you have some time on your hands and own an XK/XKR or are even considering buying one of these beautiful automobiles, do yourself a favor, and spend some time viewing the following links provided. I honestly believe after seeing these videos you will have a different opinion on how our cars are built. Jaguar is not a GM, Chrysler or Ford. When I owned my 2012 Camaro RS, it was built in Ontario, Canada and it took only 1 day to put it all together vs Jaguar's 2 weeks.

Ladies and Gentlemen, we own an automobile that is truly something special.

Check these out. Be sure to watch in the sequence I have provided......if you decide to watch, come back and provide your thoughts to us forum members.

Enjoy, you will be glad you spent some time watching.

Not sure about that....The XK has a long history with Jaguar. We will have to wait and see what happens. I have not seen any info on discontinuence of the XK/XKR.

Thanks, Richard. Really enjoyed watching the videos. I didn't think it was possible to appreciate the car more, but I guess I was wrong. It was great to see the attention being given our cars as they are built.

This is available as single link video too. Have watched it a few times. Jaguar does not do enough justice on how this car is built and why it is different than GM and like.

The whole process goes barely stated to the consumer and it's a shame. The construction can be used as a sales technique to refute other brands prowess to a point.

GM also uses robotic technology in their manufacturing process, however, after driving a brand new Chevy Malibu rental last week, I am now presuming that Jaguar's robots are way smarter.

Great video! I like to see the pride the workers have in putting together the cars. The build process is very "semi exotic" with alot of hand fitting and measuring. There does not seem to be rush to push the product out the door which you see with a lot of manufacturers.

I wonder how long it takes, start to finish, to make, say, a BMW - 6 Series, in comparison? I bet its not two weeks.

I also wonder the same thing. How does a similarly priced car compare in the way it is manufactured?

Jaguar does not do a lot of manufacturing like Porsche or BMW does. Jaguar is not trimming seats in house, etc... Then again they are not the same level of manufacturer; Jaguar is small time in sales numbers compared to those two.

Since you watched the XK video, you'll have even more appreciation for the marque if you watch the Aston equivalent video. They do much of the similar technique, but not on a large automated scale (for better or worse). Like a back yard garage style of what Jaguar does. Or did Jaguar take what Aston is doing figure out how make a "Model T" out of it?

Keep in mind that Jaguar only produces 28 cars daily, and that is coupes XK & XKR, convertibles XK & XKR and XKR-S models.

Taking 2 weeks to produce "one" car shows that quality is a major concern and issue.

We own premium automobiles for sure. The chassis on our cars are beautiful.

Both interesting and impressive. They should play these on big screens at the dealerships.

Great video isn't it.

It might be worth putting links for things like that in the 'XK Press pack / equipment spec / tech spec & pics FAQ' sticky. The video was discussed 6 months ago but judging by the comments a lot of people haven't seen it before so this thread will disappear quickly as well. Perhaps most people only look back through the history when they are searching for something in particular?

The uniqueness of the whole XK process was nicely done. Good video series.
