It's a ball flange fit. The nuts shoulder up onto the studs and will break off if you over torque them. Most likely the flange has bent allowing the ball socket fit to loosen from exhaust or engine movement. Make sure your engine mounts are good by trying to move the car forward and back with the brakes locked and the hood open. You'll see the engine lift if the mounts are bad. Per the leak, get the flanges straightened or replaced.
