Well I think I am going to go ahead and change it. I noticed in my graphs of other drives, coolant temps seem to fluctuate about 15 degrees in normal driving from 185 to almost 200ºF.

I just ordered the whole outlet assembly + housing + coolant assembly for about $311 shipped. Ouch!

I hope I don't run into problems with the install!

2007 JAGUAR XKR Parts - Direct JPLV Porsche Parts.com

I think you might have overpaid. Gaudin asks about 114 bucks for the assy.

Now I'm confused. I believe I was instructed to purchase all the items circled in number 9 in this diagram.

I actually ordered it from Gaudin and it came out to $311 shipped. But maybe I bought an unnecessary assembly? Do I just need items 6, 7 and 8?

EDIT--I just reread your other posts. I guess you were saying that the whole outlet assembly would only be necessary if it was damaged. I wonder if I can just return that assembly if I don't end up needing it.

I went to the Gaudin site and searched for a 2007 XKR and came up with the two jpg attached.

The first shows a box with numerous parts in it and they all have numbers. Outside the box is the number 11. I ordered the number 11 part which include all the parts inside the box. Number 11 costs $114.76.

I'm not sure why your attached jpg looks different than mine. I never added up all the seperate parts and compared it with the single number 11 costs.

Yeah, you shoulda just ordered number 9 in your jpg.

It looks like you've pulled up non-XKR parts as it says "W/O supercharger".

I did order #9. So I'm guessing I ordered the right thing?

Your right. I don't know why I got it wrong the first time. See new jpgs

Yes, everything in "the box" is what I ordered. Number nine in your picture and number 11 in the jpg I just now attached.

I just got the delivery in the mail today. I'm a little surprised--I was not expecting the thing to be made out of metal, but out of plastic! Are you sure that I need to replace this big honking metal piece? There is some plastic built into it on the inside that is prone to breaking?

In post #12, WhiteXKR mentioned that the SC models with an aluminum crossover do not have the same problems as the NA models with the plastic crossover. Hailers has the NA model, you have the SC model.

What you need is just the thermostat.

NAPA 33948 is the *exact* same as OEM complete with seal.
$20 or so.

Ahhhh... I did not realize that until now. I should've realized it when he had a different price for the parts!

Thanks!!

BTW has anyone had any trouble returning anything to Gaudin Jaguar parts? Their return policy sounds really archaic...

I may just keep this thing and steal the thermostat off it since I might only get $100-150 back by returning it, if I'm even allowed to return it! It is quite a beautiful part, it would look good on a bookshelf!

That's why step number one before ordering is to get up close and personal with the actual part.

Double checked that NAPA number because your year is different.

Same number. About $13 at rockauto.

STANT Part # 14748
GATES Part # 33948

All the same, STANT=GATES=NAPA.

I ended up buying a thermostat from AutoZone (Duralast brand) for about $13 with seal. Is this the same part as well? 10811W or 4748?

BTW, I just bought the supercharger washer. It was $3 at the dealer, and it took them about 10 minutes to locate the part number because it's sort of an obscure part.

I would NOT recommend reusing this part because it actually has a rubber inlay that probably would not seal very well if reused.

Is there an O-Ring that connects the thermostat housing to the outlet assembly that needs to be replaced? I thought the only O-ring I needed to worry about was the one that comes with the thermostat itself!

I think I'm going to attempt this job on Saturday. Just to make sure, the only materials I need (other than tools) are the supercharger coolant duct plug washer and the thermostat with the new seal, right?

Argh.... am I not doing this right? The Stant 14748 I ordered does NOT appear fit the thermostat housing. The original OEM thermostat appears to be a multipiece thermostat.

OEM:

Stant/Gates/Waxstat:

Thermostat housing (notice the two notches where the original thermostat sort of clipped in):

Interestingly, it does seem fairly obvious that the thermostat had failed, as the seal has come apart (it was like that before I even took it out of the thermostat housing):

Did I not remove the old thermostat completely? What's going on??

I am really irritated because now my wife has to drive me to work!!

According to what I can see in the workshop manual, the OEM part is what the thermostat should look like - it certainly doesn't took like the Stant part.

My 2007 NON supercharged thermostat is a three piece like the one shown in your hand. I do not see how that STANT could possibly work. Then again, I'm not there to see it in hand.
I'd recommend a factory thermostat and it is a three piece one (counting the spring) that locks under those two 'dogs' in the housing. One of my dogs was also broken off (plastic on non turbo cars).
