P0430 Cat efficiency below threshold

Tried those catalytic and injector cleaner magic bottles a few times over the past year. Except maybe once which seems to have extended the time before the EML light showed by a hundred miles or so, it unfortunately hasn't work for me. Between me and the mechanic the car must have had a good 6 or 7 bottles and always had the same results. Would have been too easy otherwise.

Yes. Yes it did. I had a failed injector a few years back. A while after it was fixed I got that Cat Below nonsense. A dude at a shop I used said Give This a Shot, so I did. A week later the fault was gone.
Seriously. I tried Cat Cleaner and it worked. At least SO far, and almost four years it's still okay.

After I got the Jag back together in early December (replaced the S/C snout, my interconnector spring was broken) I got a CEL on and the codes showed Cat below threshold on Bank 1. As my registration was due to expire the end of January, I needed the state inspection which would fail with the CEL on. The car ran fine with no problems, idle was smooth and I got on a lonely stretch of road, held the hammer down to 130 with no issues. So, I ran two bottles of the snake oil through the fuel over a couple of weeks with no joy. Next, I ordered a setback tube off Ebay and put it in, gets the O2 sensor out of the exhaust main flow. Reset the CEL and codes, drove the car for a hundred miles so it would pass state inspection and it passed with no issues at all. It is now over 1K miles since reset and has not come back on.

Update time! I don’t have any words to describe how stupid this is!
Just got my car back with new hi flow cats fitted. Let’s get this one out of the way, car sounds awesome! Feels like I got a new car and want to drive it even more now 😁
Now the unbelievable part.
Turns out one of the previous owner opened one of the cats and emptied the inside of it. Then welded the hole back. Literally the car was running on one cat only! No wonder I was failing my emissions test, and getting some weird O2 readings and cat efficiency codes.
Wonder what was the person thinking… Glad I eventually decided to go ahead and fit new cats in the end. Would have never thought this was an option in my diagnosis. Luckily no damage was done on the engine.
Lets drive it now for a few hundred miles and see how she performs 😁

Also most likely you will get cel lights due to high flow cats. Can help you get rid of the codes in the tune/reprogramming . Feel free to PM

Word of advice. Most high flows cats will fail and clog up eventually, some fail really early on. Mine were complete toast after less than 7k miles. So periodically take them off and inspect inside.

I heard about the cel lights. Which I’m expecting to see eventually. But so far so good.

7k miles seems very low! Was that with normal day to day driving miles or more spirited/track miles? Might start to add some catalytic cleaner additives in the fuel tank every month or two then to try and keep in good shape before it’s too late.

The cleaner won't help it's just nature of the cheap high flow catalytic converters. They just melt slowly due to temps.I had Magnaflows btw. There is a reason warranty is only 90 days for those trash cans 😆
Most likely you do need to tune though because on top of cel you will lose significant amount of torque with the high flows or decats until adjusted for in the tune to run properly

Ah well, will have to wait and see how the cat will behave over time. Planning on a tune eventually, but before doing it, I want to get the supercharger pulley (and perhaps upgrade the intercooler system too). So I don't have to retune after each mod.
(PS: Still no CEL popping up! Fingers crossed I've not jinxing it now)
