P0481 fan 2 control circuit

P0481 fan 2 control circuit
Would this be a replay fault? I changed over the primary and secondary fused but no joy. (100amp fuse ok) i have slaved up a brand new fan and cowling assembly but still cannot get fan to operate with warm engine or with A/C switched on.

This would be much simpler if you kept the original thread going... As said before, the fan doesn't use relays, it used control pulses from the ECU to tell the fan how fast to run. When my control wires were cut the fan ran all the time.
Did you read what the service manual has to say about it?

The service manual says it could be any of the following:
*Fan 2 control circuit - system internal failures (damaged cooling fan control unit/cooling fan unit control failure)
*Fan 2 control circuit - component failures (damaged cooling fan control unit/cooling fan unit control failure)
*Fan 2 control circuit - circuit short to ground (cooling fan control unit circuit short to the ground)
*Fan 2 control circuit - short to battery (cooling fan control unit circuit short circuit to power)
*Fan 2 control circuit - circuit open (cooling fan control unit circuit short to open)
on this I was able to establish was that I would sense PWM signal and 14v at the fan plug (chassis side)
I did not confirm the black earth - which is what I will have to-do next.
I moved the car down my road (parked it, and later moved back onto my drive with no cooling fan fitted, I did not get any other fault codes other than P0481, so the car does not seem to distinguish that the fan is or isn't connected. - will clear the code and run the car to double check it gives the P0481 with no fan plugged in.
spence
