One of my soffitte lights for the rear plate lightning was broken, so I replaced it today.
When taking out the broken bulb, I noticed that the plastic around it looked quite burned from the heat. So I decided to try LED replacements instead of the standard bulbs, in the hope that they run less hot. Are there any negative side effects known when fitting LED’s here for the number plate lighting?
One side effect which should be no big deal is that these two LEDs continue to shine very dimly for a couple of minutes after turning off and locking the car.
But otherwise the two new LED lights for the plates in the rear seem to work pretty good so far, but I still need to take it for a drive. The light is a bit stronger and a bit colder than the original traditional bulbs.
TexasTraveler did an all around LED upgrade on his car and listed the LEDs he used: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...pgrade-195058/
Didn’t reread the whole thread to see if he was satisfied with the license plate lamps color.
The lingering fade out must be the internal LED unit electronics holding a charge, as the car’s electrical power to those lights would be off.
You have to read the reviews from the place you bought them. Originally, all my LEDs eventually started to have that flashing/blinking/seizure behavior.
I've since upgraded to a better brand and they have been awesome ever since.
Also look out for size differences... some LEDs are longer than OEM and wont fit certain applications.

Ehh I can't remember... they were both on Amazon and the better ones were a big more expensive. The cheaper ones had reviews that mentioned the 'blinking' issue.
