Default Is it possible to play the music from one's phone when hooked up via Bluetooth?

EDIT: I meant "is it possible to play..."

The title pretty much says it all: I have no aux / usb input on my 2006 stereo, but of course the bluetooth connectivity is still there...hence the question: could it be used to circumvent that limitation and play the music that's on one's phone? Or is it just restricted to phone calls?

Thanks for the info!!

The factory fitted Bluetooth is for mobile use only, not music streaming.

If your 2006 has the iPod interface connection under the armrest, you can install a Bovee 1000 bluetooth adapter to stream audio from your phone. It is simple and works well.

He said he did not have the audio connectivity option fitted and that was not standard until 2010 I believe.

iPod connectivity became standard equipment on the 2009 4.2L models.

I'm not a fan of using a Bovee 1000 Bluetooth adapter to play music that's on my phone. It's not integrated with the touchscreen, so you have to use your phone to change songs. That's a risky distraction while driving.

I use an old iPod Nano to play all my music because it's integrated with the touchscreen and steering wheel controls. It's a dedicated device that lives in the armrest compartment and recharges automatically while in use. Sure, it's ancient technology but it still works for me. Here's how I did it:

The Bluetooth built into the infotainment system supports phone connectivity only - I think the Bluetooth version available at that time may not have supported music streaming, or Jaguar chose to install a lesser version.

Many on this forum have installed relatively inexpensive aftermarket add-ons that allow streaming - Bovee and Old Jaguar Bluetooth Streaming Adapter (this I have). You can also go for the Chinese Tesla-like big screen replacement that many are drawn to - one version is called canavie I think - for much more than streaming, but also more expensive.

Do a search and you will find several threads on each of these, and perhaps more.

Thanks to all of you for your replies! And can a 2006 model, with nothing besides AM/FM and CD, have one of those addons installed?

Yes Jaguar offered the optional ACM audio connectivity module which offered iPod, iPhone and USB integration.

Audio Connectivity Modules are no longer available from Jaguar dealers. They occasionally come up for sale on Ebay and in the Forum Marketplace.

If I were you, I'd consider the aftermarket Tesla-style replacement touchscreen. Unless you hate that look and want to keep it original.

On my '10 XKR I can use the touchscreen, the physical button and the steering wheel jog button to move to the next track on my Bovee. Previous track doesn't work though.

The Old Jaguar unit will work in a 2006 XK. However, you need to have a JLR dealer or independent mechanic with the proper software activate the AUX channel through which the streaming adapter works.

I can't speak about the Bovee.

That's where playlists come in handy. At the start of a drive, I select one of the many playlists on my iPhone, one that I've created or one that the iPhone creates, and don't touch the phone after that. No need to fiddle with song selection.

Can’t you tell Siri to change tracks or playlists?

Yes, Siri can do that I think. I don't use Siri much - it kind of creeps me out - but I may try that next time. Thanks!

Hi BillMack
I don’t use Siri either as generally don’t trust “the man” won’t be eavesdropping🤫
I’ll probably succumb to her eventually as would be very convenient. Let us know how you make out.

Mike, I just did a dry run (not in the car) with Siri and she(?) did indeed play the playlist I asked for. Thanks for the suggestion!

Siri (also Google, which is vastly superior) listens all the time anyway, so who cares? Nobody cares what you say. I'm not being rude, nobody cares what I say either. Google would require 350 BILLION employees to keep tabs on all the users. They don't.

Once again, we (including me) have begun to wander off-topic.

To my mind this is OK IF we have answered the question or dealt with the issue posed by the OP. So, George, have we given you enough information to answer your question? I certainly have plenty to say about technology and privacy but don't want to add to this thread unless we're done with your issue.

TIA.
