I have always loved the XK and am looking at one and thinking of buying. I fairly mechanically inclined, but know absolutely nothing about these cars. Is there anything in particular I should be looking at or looking for or listening for?
it looks like a very clean car. 09 XKR coupe with about 68k miles. And it’s the portfolio edition.
anyone with any input or insight would be greatly appreciated

Welcome to the forums, you're at the best place for support! As with any car purchase, I'd recommend a PPI (pre purchase inspection), any vehicle histories via the main dealer network and/or carfax, I'd also get the body inspected by a competent body shop, even if it's history's flawless, there could be hidden work never reported. As these vehicles age, the list of things to look for grows longer, so keep that in mind when negotiating the best price. That said, the XKR, PE version and 4.2 IMHO are the best of everything for the X150 platform, particuliary with reliability ad ease of maintenance. Later models saw certain improvements, but also prone to more frequent and costlier repairs.

Have you had the opportunity to look at the XKR for sale in the MARKETPLACE section of this forum recently?

About two years ago I was in your shoes. This beautiful 2008 XKR, 60,000 mi, showed up on Craigs List. I immediately called the seller and asked that he'd let me see her the next day.
I knew something about cars but nothing about Jaguars. The story the seller told over the phone seemed legit, and the pics seemed authentic but I still had a few hours before seeing her in the raw.
So, the night before I downloaded the 2008 Sales Brochure and tried to learn as much as I could about the XKR.
Having sold cars while in college, I learned a few things about what to look for but for the most part, I trusted my gut.
As with most encounters with beauty, I was putty in her hands. I knew instantly this Jag was too perfect to pass on. The seller was genuine and owned a stable of top-shelf rides. It's always a gamble to buy a used car but I am sooo freakin happy that she's mine.
I joined this Forum because I was afraid of the unknown. I have read posts daily for 2 years now so I know what could go wrong, but to this day, I have not had any of the multitudes of issues that I have read about, (knock on wood). I have tackled two minor issues through the support of this great resource.
Like many owners on this Forum, I smile every time I take her car cover off. I drive with a sinister smile every time we go out to stretch her legs! I hope you find your dream car and she treats you nicely!
