Default Powder Coat Rim Advice

I have an indigo blue XKR and went and got a couple of estimates today to have the the stock rims powder coated. Orginally, I wanted to get them as close to the color of my car (all blue) to match and have the calipers painted red. I asked the one guy for ideas and he suggested a super wet black powder coat look on them. Also said if I do that he can paint the front grills black as well. Now, I'm kinda of torn on what I think would look the best. Do you guys think that wet black would look good or what about a flat black with maybe the lip of the rim blue matching my car?? Wish I could see how these would look on my car before I do it. Quoted total cost around $600. Reasonable? Also, I don't know the exact name of my current stock rims but they have the five spokes If that helps. Thanks for the help guys.

I am not digging the black wheels if you have any chrome. A dark grey kind of color would be best of both worlds if silver does not cut it. I would paint the whole wheel including the lip.

How about some pictures of your car to better visualize your options?

Here are some pics of my ride. Granted, the windows are tinted black now. He said the super wet black powder coat will be pretty glossy obviously compared to the flat black. Like I said, I still might just do them the same color as my car but unsure.

Obviously, it all comes down to personal taste. I really like the high contrast of the silver against the Indigo blue, so I wouldn't go with blacked out wheels. However, when I get my car, I am seriously considering going with a blacked out lower grille, and just leaving the upper grille in chrome. The point of doing that would be to make the lower half disappear, with all the focus on the upper grille, so the flatter the black, the better.

This is the look I would be trying to achieve.

What about getting the rims powder coated the color of my car to match with red painted calipers or maybe even white? I like to try and be a little different with my taste sometimes.

Since I don't have Photoshop, I decided to use a little Microsoft Paint to see what the black would look like and I honestly think it looks bad azz!! Love it. I would get rid of the chrome/silver liner around the window and get it black along with the front grills. Here's a couple of pics of my masterpiece lol. What do you guys think of how it looks?

There may be something wrong with me...but I'm not getting that look at all with the indigo. Works for me on a black car though, but that may be because it's so frequently done on black and I'm use to it. What about indigo spokes and leave the rim/lip silver as a contrasting highlight to set it off? Sort of like the way Ghostrider nailed that overall effect with his black wheels with bright edges on the spokes.

My personal preference on a dark colored car is bright wheels, like you have now, but understand you want to do something different. And I also think the blacked out or body color lower grill would be perfect. Do you plan to lower it?

If the car was black or white or red, that look works. However, I don't think it works with indigo.

JMO, but I'm not sure the black will look so great with indigo. Not enough contrast between the two dark colors, I dont think. Red, white or silver maybe but I don't think dark blue. Cars with wheels painted to match the body color always remind me of those track suits everybody used to wear in the 80s... I don't know maybe thats just me though. In the end its your car and you should do what is going to make you happy.

1980's AMG's or special order Porsche's. All matching look is a bit dated, but I did love it at the time. Works better on solid colors.

Rscultho, I like those rims but think that blue is too electric type of blue. What site did you find them on? I appreciate everyone's opinion! So far besides me, I only have one person that likes it lol and I still do today by looking at the pictures again. As far as contrast goes the indigo blue is brighter in person/mid day than the pictures I posted. Bruce, maybe eventually I'll lower it but no plans right now.

Oh and if I get the rims done black and hate the look, I'll either get new rims or maybe get the vehicle wrapped in black which I've thought a lot about doing although very expensive I'm sure.

Here's a site that has them...the color may not be too far off from yours. You might be able to paint the inserts for an exact match to your body color...

KARIZZMA WHEELS; MODEL KR09 LUCIAN, Custom Wheels, chrome rims

There are other places that have them. You can google KR-09 Lucian wheel and that will pull up several places that sells them. That wheel comes with several different colors of insert...if you painted the star inserts your body color those little nodes on the barrel would provide a neat contrast in color...sor of like red center caps do for silver wheels.

Yeah, get the vehicle wrapped in either flat or matte black but like I said I'm sure it costs several grand to do.
