Preperation for new set of pilot 4s's
After 9 1/2 years of ownership, I'm finally getting ready to replace my original Dunlops on my 2010 XK Coupe (15,000 miles) with a fresh set of Michelin Pilot Sport 4S. Expensive, but well worth it for me. I'm even getting the Michelin promotion for $150! lol. Question....Is there anything I should be prepared for with regards to the tire sensors as all four are original? I have not had a problem with them. Does anything need to be reset after the install? Is it advisable to change all the sensors while getting the new tires due to the sensor's battery life of 8-10 years? or, should I not replace what is not broken. Thanks all.

Thanks Sean. Where might be the best place to purchase the sensors? I assume Jaguar is out of the question...What is the brand and possible part number for the sensors? Thanks again.

I agree that now's the best time to replace sensors. Definitely don't buy the sensors from Jaguar. Read this thread, post #9: https://www.jaguarforums.com/forum/x...ensors-241304/

Can anyone recommend where and what brand tire sensors should be purchased for our XKs? The pricing is all over the place and I do want to get fresh stock for the battery life of the sensor. I believe the installer/vendor of the tires... BJs sells the sensors, but I'm somewhat leery as to the quality of them. Thanks all.

Thanks Cee Jay. Too bad there are not many of the "Old Timer Members" left that still have such a wealth of info. I guess as our cars age, only the true dedicated stay with their beloved car as the others move on to the newest and best. It seems to be a theme in many forums. Thanks again.

You said that you are buying the new Michelins from BJ's Warehouse Club. You should have them supply and install the new TPMS sensors because they will be responsible for the warranty. Note that the correct sensors are plug-and-play, and need no programming.
Make sure that the tire installer uses hand tools only to remove and reinstall your wheels, as an air wrench can damage the 2-piece lug nuts. Also, make sure the installer uses the correct size (19mm) socket - one came with your XKR - and not the closest size SAE socket (3/4"), which is a wee bit too big and will bugger the corners of the outer shell and cause it to spin on the inner nut.
Also. note that the correct torque spec is 92 ft.lbs.

I'm thinking of asking BJs to replace all the sensors with their stock sensors. If 315mhz is the criteria and the XK sensors are not programmable, there shouldn't be a problem as it would pretty much be plug and play. I was just wondering......If they are using a 19mm socket, wouldn't they be able to use a power gun to remove the nuts without damage to them? As far as installing the nuts, I can always ask to have them put on by hand and then the torque wrench. I'm just reluctant as to whether the tech wants to remove that many wheel nuts by hand.
