Default Programming Extra Key Fob with Tesla Android screen

I lost one of my Key Fobs. So I buy one online and I visit a locksmith and he told me the car doesn’t recognize my key because I have new Radio. He told me that’s it’s a antenna for fob in factory radio. Anyone have same problem or similar. Can’t sell my old unit😂😂😂

Take your XK to a Jaguar dealer to determine if that used Smartkey can be programmed to your car. Also bring your wallet.

Read this entire 2016 thread about Smartkeys:

Key fob antenna is next to the dome light and has nothing to the radio/Tesla screen.
It is just difficult to properly add new key to the car and I would also rely on a dealer on that topic.

There's been several posts reporting that Jaguar Dealers will NOT program a used Smartkey and I do recall reading it can only be done IF the used one has been unpaired from the original vehicle. Others who have direct experience of sourcing a replacement/additional Smartkey will be able to confirm.

The cost of these things is crazy. When I go to buy a used Jaguar, I'm buying the 2 Smartkeys - the vehicle is just the sweetener to the deal.

Graham,

My Jaguar dealer programmed the used Smartkey that I bought on Ebay. Details are in the thread linked in my Post #2, above.

Okay then... Once upon a time I lost a key so I bought a new one and had new and the one I already had programmed. Cost a bit. Three days later I found the other key. Of course it didn't work.
SO, since it wasn't divorced FROM my car, but it still WAS programmed to it, I assume it is still not programmable to the car (again).
Has anyone tried this? Reprogramming an original key after adding two other keys separately?

So it didn’t work in the slot either, correct?

Was it fully divorced from its previous car, no lingering alimony?

Got it used off ebay, seller said it should be good to go.
There may be a way to force-divorce the key.

Correct. It was so worthless, even the emergency keyblade didn't work.

That is just mechanical isn't it? It should work even if the car doesn't have a battery connected.

You bought a key online... I notice that you have a 2007 model year. The most important thing I learned from the thread referenced by Stuart, was a little snippet by u102768 referring to the key FOB part change:

"according to the parts system the change point was VIN B12815 which is part way through the 2007 MY."

The older vehicles (mine) have a single channel FOB. The newer ones have a multi channel FOB (like probably most sold on the internet). The dealer that eventually fixed my problem did not even know this.

When adding additional keys with SDD, any previous fobs which were already paired with the car MUST be present when adding fobs otherwise they will no longer work after programming the new fobs and I'm fairly certain used fobs must have been unpaired from the previous car prior to pairing to a different car. JLR's next generation fobs did not have this problem and it's much easier to add old keys from other vehicles to new vehicles (I've swapped fobs back and forth between vehicles).

The blade in that case was never cut anyway. It is a blank

I have programmed keys to my car using SDD. You must have the current keys present and I tried another used key and per the divorce details it did NOT work. My then current key and my brand new one paired together and both work.

This I think was 2-3 years ago but I recall it being programmed to the cluster or related computer, not anything head unit related.

Are we limited to 2 keys?
I have 2 keys already, can I add a 3rd, a 4th?
