I am currently getting close to the expiration of my 6 year Easy Care Total Care Gold policy. I purchased it with 5,000 miles on my car and now have 11,650 miles. With 30 days left, I used it for the first time to replace my water pump. The policy cost $3600+ tax. The company called for renewal and wants another $3800 for 3 years. I have no plans to renew. For me, the extended warranty was not cost effective as I drive very little. Having said that, each owner might be in a different position. Personally, I'm not enthusiastic with purchasing a third party warranty. It's a gamble, but you can be relatively confident if there is a huge claim, the company will be looking for a loophole to decline the claim. I had a small claim (water pump) and they still sent a rep down to inspect the car. Other than the cooling system in my car, it has been totally reliable. Of course I'll keep my fingers crossed for the future.

Take the money that you would have spent for renewing that Easy Care extended service contract and put it in a separate "Jag Repairs" savings account at your bank. Use that account ONLY to pay for repairs on your XK over the next 2 years, the same as the term of that renewal service contract. Odds are you'll have money left in that account after 2 years.

Here's the advice of consumer advocate Clark Howard:

"Never buy an extended auto warranty from a third party. Stick to the manufacturer’s own warranty only."
