Default Putting the Parking Brake in Service Mode for Brake Replacement

I am preparing to replace rear brakes and rotors on my XKR. I read it is best to disconnect the negative terminal so the parking brake properly resets. Can I do this with a diag tool? I have a Ht200 which has a ton of editable true/false statements in the PBM control, but see nothing on service mode. I have a SDD on the way as well.

I'd prefer to avoid having to reset all my settings that would come with a battery disconnect.

try this....with battery connected, turn ignition switch to position 2. then hold the park brake in the release position and while holding it, turn ignition off and remove key...if no park brake light comes on, then success

That's what I do. Basically just Not Engage Parking Brake when I shut it down.

I didn't think the parking brake engaged automatically when shutting off the engine, mine doesn't!? Is it different on the 5 litre?

What? Of course it is.

Isn't it?

You turn the engine off and remove the key after driving, every time... Do the same except the paddle bit first.

Leave the parking brake off, unhook your battery, remove the parking brake cable from the caliper (easily done)
change pads, re-attach cable to caliper, reconnect battery.

I've done rear discs and pads a few times on both my XKRs (X150s). I never disconnected the battery and there's no need to disconnect the parking brake cable or put the rear brakes in service mode. Just ensure the park brake is not engaged before you lift the car, when you take the caliper off the mounting bracket use a cable tie round it and the spring so the caliper is not dangling by the hose or the park brake cable. Done it that way a good few times, never had any issues.

If you do want to reset the park brake then yes, disconnect the -ve battery terminal for a few seconds or so and reconnect. When you get in the car and start it it will tell you to press the brake pedal and apply the parking brake, that will reset it. You will also have to reset the one-touch windows, search here for that procedure, it takes a few seconds only. You won't lose any seat/mirror position memories or anything like that, these are all stored on non-volatile memory.
