I posted in the other forum not realizing this jag is for this section since its 2007. I have the opportunity to purchase a 2007 black on black XKR convertible with 15,000 miles on it. It has been sitting for a little bit and is only for sale because the older gentlemen passed away. the wife is selling for around 20-22k. KBB has this vehicle at around 35k but not sure how much i trust it.
I just wanted to get some general ideas on if this is a good car to buy (ie does it have lots of known reliability issues) as well as if you think its a fun car to drive. Thanks for your help.

The XKR is the top of the line, and the convert is usually about $4000-$5000 more than a coupe.
I am sure this car will sell fast with only 15,000 miles for a 2007. I a, sure the car is in top shape withthat kind of milegae.
Great opporrtunity for someone to enter the Jaguar brand.

For $20k that car is a steal. Should be closer to $30k with those kinds of miles. Don't delay!

Ok, so if its a good deal what would the car realistically be priced at a dealer vs what i can get though this family type deal?
The car is in excellent shape the only known issue is the window in the back needs to be fixed/sealed but i imagine thats not that big of a repair.

If it is as good as you say, I think $30k wouldn't be out of line, but that's if the top were perfect, too. Upper 20s for sure.

Jaguar put out an TSB (Technical Service Bulletin) to the Jaguar dealers on how to make this repair using a special adhesive.
I would ask the private party if the car can be inspected by a local Jaguar dealer and get the professional opinion from the Jag dealer, before assuming the problem cannot be fixed and determine a cost for the repair.
I don't have the exact link to the thread here on the forum, but you could do a "search" and get allot of info from other Jaguar XKR owners who have had the same problem.

You might try your luck with the adhesive but I would just assume the worst in this case if a repair like that is going to affect your decision to buy the car or not! Even a dealer tells you they can do it you will have no idea if the repair will last or not.

Sounds like a good deal, but be prepared to shell 4-6K over the first year. Car has been sitting for a while, getting near the stage for tires, pad, etc... This is not advice geared specifically to the XKR, but any similar car in the same situation.
