Default Quick Question on Numbering/Circuits

Got a P010B code. It is related to the MAF sensor. Which side would that be? Diver or Passenger?

Well, that took much longer than I thought it would…. my morning cafe latte turned cold.
What I thought would be an easy question to answer is in fact not (so I look forward to being corrected).
Reviewing the Workshop Manual, Engine Technical Training Manual and the Electrical Guide left me with no definitive answer.
So, we are left with does ‘A’ = LH? and ‘B’ = RH?
I would assume so as cars equipped with 1 air box have it installed on the LH side.

The same thing I came up with. Here is the answer. It is from two documents........
There is a separate document from Jaguar (not in the Jag Workshop Manual) that explains the numbering. If you use the Workshop manual, you could get a different result and it is appears to ambiguous....

For everyone's use in the future...........

Passenger side is Bank1, Drivers side is bank 2.
Conventions for Circuits is Passenger side is A, Drivers side B

Following the wire tracing manual inside the Electrical Repair guide indicates
P010B would be Mass Air Flow Sensor - B circuit - Which is Drivers side.

The drawings and the convention match the code, so that is the answer. If anyone has an OBDII code, using the above should be a big help.

Just to mention that is for LHD vehicles...

RHD is same position on the car but you have to swap driver & passenger in the above.

Things only become ambiguous if referenced in terms of driver side or passenger side:

The Workshop Manuals use Left Hand and Right Hand to avoid this but some JLR technical documents still regress to the old Bank A and Bank B instead of Bank 1 and Bank 2 for cylinder referencing.

Individual cylinder numbering on the X150 is different to the above. A diagram can be seen in XK/XKR - 'How To' / DIY Repair & Maintenance sticky under Section 5.

I certainly don't know why Jaguar decided to go RIGHT TO LEFT with their numbering/referencing. That's just brain-crazy stuff.

And I get calling the air boxes for Banks A and B…. but as there is a common inlet tube fed by both air boxes…. is that the right thing to do, lol. These are the things that cause me to glance sideways at the bar before 5.

Or, if you really want to get confused, they say "Looking at the Fly Wheel".

Well guess what.......you could look at the fly wheel from TWO different directions. Lots of help that was.

I got my information from Cylinder Numbering Diagnostic Reference - V8
Used by engine management software for DTC's and datalogger
08/06 SDS 002

Found here SDS002 V8_cylinder_numbering_portrait (jagrepair.com)

You’ve got to remember that where these cars were developed, the right hand side of the car is the primary (driver) side of the car, it makes sense that the numbering would start there.

Jaguar decided to follow the standard, set by the USA, particularly as used in OBD II.

I don't know why the USA decided the order they did... possibly from ISO?
