Radio loses presets

Check your battery condition, terminal connections (for tightness), and check the voltage--both at rest, and at cranking (shouldn't drop below 8.5v or somewhere in that range*). If the battery is getting old/weak it can dip below a certain voltage, and the infotainment system can fail to load presets. Happened in my former Jag, and it's something simple to check first before reaching for your wallet at your dealership.
Hope this helps!

No, it has nothing to do with the battery. I have this problem upon occasion. I don't use the over the air radio, but it definitely happens with the Sat presets. And it's inconsistent. Sometimes it happens just when I shut the car off, go into a meeting, and come back out. Sometimes it happens after the car has sat for a week. I tried to have the local dealer do a search on it to see if there's anything showing up, but nothing came back from my first try. This is the only gremlin I've had show up, but I've not found it reproduce-able enough to take and leave with the dealer yet...

Jaguar Special Service Notice #SSM42465 (dated 10/19/09) is the similar wording to the Jaguar SSM I found back in 2007 to diagnose a similar issue with my X-type. So, I'm merely relaying the info...
Actual text from the factory notice:
Cause:
When the vehicle system voltage is below 8.5 Volts at the SDARS unit under cranking conditions, the Satellite Radio is unable to transmit over MOST the 'User Presets' to the HLDF (High Level Front Display) causing either loss of presets or some presets to be missing.
Action:
If a customer complains of 'Loss of Presets', check battery condition and charging system. Do not replace Satellite Radio units for 'Loss of Presets'. Reset the customer's presets and advise customer of selecting Satellite Radio prior to starting the vehicle.
Note:
If the customer selects the ignition on with Satellite Radio playing prior to cranking the vehicle, 'Loss of presets' should not occur. A service fix will be made available as soon as possible.

Good luck!

So, the Sat presets have already disappeared on my 2013 XK. Not only that, there are other strange things happening with the Sat radio. On two different occasions, I couldn't change the channel. No matter what I would do, the same channel kept playing. Then, to make things even more weird, sometimes the Sat radio will never turn off! Even when I turn the car off, the damn thing keeps playing. The only way to kill it is to select another source (AM/FM/ or iPod.) I don't intend to subscribe after the 3 months trial runs up, so I'm not going to bother making a special trip to the dealer about it.

Well, it turns out that I didn't lose my presets afterall. I discovered this morning that there are 3 pages of Sat presets. If you hit the mode button on the steering wheel, or hit the source button on the center stack, it steps through all 3 pages. In my case, I must have hit one of those buttons and caused the Sat radio to move to another preset page...which had never been programmed, so it made it appear as if all the presets had disappeared. The only thing I haven't figured out yet is how to step through the pages backwards. As it stands now, if I'm on Sat page 3 and want to go to page 1, I have to hit AM/FM, and step forward from there.

Still, though, there is no mention of these 3 Sat preset pages anywhere in the manual. I discovered it by accident.
