Radio reception

Radio reception
I’ve owned my 2009 XK for two years, and have noticed that my terrestrial radio reception is, well, weak. My location is about 25 miles north of Philadelphia, which has numerous fm and am radio stations. When traveling near the metro area, I do notice slightly better reception, but not as strong as previous vehicle had.
Any thoughts on why my Jag doesn’t get better reception? Being an ‘09, it has the pod type antenna on the hatch.

Service manual in Stickies has the how to remove but ,assuming you have some reception, maybe check/clean the electrical connections and grounds to the pre-amp under the boot lid , right side under the trim cover.
BTW I have the base radio with 6 cd changer. You probably have an upgraded system on the Portfolio but antenna is the same I believe. Per the manual, there is supposed to be a signal splitter in the right side of the boot near the tail light but I’ve never found that on my car.

I’m not sure the antenna is readily accessible inside the spoiler as may be meant to replace the entire spoiler for Big bucks. I think the GPS antenna is in there as well. Others may have more info on accessing the antenna.
Search the forum for other threads on poor reception as not an uncommon complaint. I think there are TSBs (service bulletins) that you might look at. One on antenna cabling impedance I recall.
Next time I have my console apart, I’m going to figure out the audio module antenna connection (Fakra I think) and cobble up an alternative antenna just to see if the reception improves.
Or could be just a poor receiver design. I never found any sensitivity specs on my base radio.
Yes, Moro Guzzi that was a 1974 V7Sport. Only motorbike of many that I wish I hadn’t sold!
